The Junior VFX Artist Journey at Playrix
At Playrix, “Junior” does not mean “observer.” From day one, you will be treated as a full-fledged partner. You will work alongside some of the strongest specialists in the industry, receiving direct mentorship while contributing to real, live tasks that impact our flagship products.
We value informed feedback and encourage openness. As a Junior VFX Artist, you won’t just follow instructions—you will be expected to actively influence the product, propose efficient new workflows, and help us maintain our leadership in the casual game market.
Core Responsibilities & Tasks
1. Creative Content Development
- Effect Creation: Design and implement visual effects for new game features, UI transitions, and player interactions. You will ensure every “click” and “swipe” feels rewarding and magical.
- Asset Production: Create high-quality textures, sprite animations, and particle sequences. You will own the process from the initial concept sketch to the final implementation within the game engine.
- UI Animation: Bring the game’s interface to life with subtle yet impactful animations that guide the player’s journey.
2. Technical Optimization & Implementation
- Mobile Efficiency: Learn and apply industry-standard optimization techniques to ensure your effects meet the rigorous technical requirements of mobile hardware (memory usage, draw calls, and battery performance).
- Engine Integration: Work directly within the engine to ensure seamless playback and visual consistency across different mobile devices.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Team Synergy: Regularly synchronize with Senior VFX Artists, Game Designers, and Programmers. You will learn how to align your artistic vision with the functional needs of gameplay and UI/UX design.
- Agile Workflow: Participate in short iterations and rapid feedback loops, allowing you to see your ideas implemented quickly without the weight of traditional bureaucracy.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Foundational Experience: At least 1 year of experience in VFX, animation, or a related field (this can include internships or high-quality personal projects).
- Artistic Intuition: An excellent sense of composition, color theory, timing, and dynamics. You should understand how a spark or a glow can change the “mood” of a screen.
- Animation Principles: A solid grasp of core animation principles (squash and stretch, anticipation, staging) and the ability to apply them to digital effects.
- Passion for Games: A genuine interest in the mobile gaming industry and a desire to understand what makes visual effects “satisfying” for players.
- Linguistic Skills: Native or professional fluency in Russian is required for effective communication within our core development teams.
Preferred Skills (The “Plus” Factors)
- Familiarity with Unity or other modern game engines.
- A strong interest in 2D effects and the “Casual” stylized art aesthetic.
- Basic understanding of the technical side of VFX (atlases, shaders, and batching).
- A portfolio that showcases a clean, vibrant, and professional style.
