This role is not just about performing shot work; it is about architecting the environment in which that work happens. You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving show-specific tools within Nuke, ensuring that the “look” of a film is achievable, repeatable, and efficient across hundreds of shots. Key Responsibilities 1. Tool Development and Workflow Architecture Your primary focus will be the technical creation of Nuke gizmos and plugins. You will work to implement tools that allow artists to hit specific visual targets set by the Director and VFX Supervisor. This includes: Authoring and maintaining show-specific tools to streamline artist workflows. Integrating needs from the Look Development department into the Nuke pipeline. Developing custom nodes and GUIs that make complex technical processes accessible to creative artists. 2. Artist Support and Mentorship A significant portion of this role involves being the “subject matter expert” on the floor. You will: Support and advise artists on proper compositing workflows. Educate and mentor team members on new toolsets and industry-standard techniques. Serve as a troubleshooter for complex technical issues that arise during the production of a shot or sequence. 3. Cross-Departmental Collaboration The Compositing Developer acts as a liaison between various creative and technical departments. You will: Collaborate with Lighting, FX, and DigiMatte teams to provide look development support for compositing-heavy sequences. Work with Production Software Nuke Developers to suggest studio-wide improvements and test major version releases. Interpret creative notes from the Director, Production Designer, and VFX Supervisor, translating them into technical solutions. 4. Documentation and Standards To ensure consistency across the studio, you will be responsible for: Creating and maintaining clear documentation on workflows, procedures, and tool usage.
