Core Responsibilities: Schedule and Workflow

The Production Supervisor is the primary architect of the department’s day-to-day operations. Your tactical oversight ensures that the film stays on track and on budget.

  • Schedule Management: You will manage the department schedule, track labor weeks, and coordinate day-to-day workflows. This includes creating internal schedules and staffing requirements while highlighting critical assumptions or vulnerabilities.

  • Budget Oversight: Working alongside the APM, PM, or AP, you help ensure department schedules and budgets remain updated as changes occur in the film’s production flow. You are responsible for approving and managing overtime within your assigned departments.

  • Artist Casting: In collaboration with Department Heads, you will cast assignments and issue deadlines, ensuring that the work’s complexity aligns with the established budget and schedule.

  • Goal Tracking: You manage the department to 8-week goals, looking ahead to ensure weekly quotas, achievements, and inventory expectations are consistently met.

  • Strategy and Problem Solving: You will strategize with upper management and other Production Supervisors to resolve efficiency issues or inventory overages, offering solutions for problems impacting the budget.

  • Reporting: You are responsible for building and maintaining reports that clearly illustrate both department-wide and individual artist productivity.

Leadership and Team Development

As the primary Production Supervisor person within the department, you serve as a coach and mentor to the production staff.

  • Supervision: You supervise and coach Production Coordinators and Production Assistants, ensuring they are well-trained and prepared for daily tasks.

  • Performance Reviews: Partnering with the Department Head, you provide timely performance feedback and drive the annual review process for the crew.

  • Conflict Resolution: You navigate and resolve departmental conflicts, working with Human Resources when additional support or guidance is required.

  • Dailies Management: You ensure dailies are efficient and that the production staff provides clear framing of progress against quota goals and previous notes.

  • Hiring and Wrap: You may participate in the interviewing and hiring process and will work on the creation of Post-Mortem and wrap book materials at the end of production.

Communication and Culture

The Production Supervisor sets the day-to-day tone for the department, fostering an environment where creativity and productivity thrive.

  • Cultural Strategy: You are responsible for the day-to-day tone in support of the studio’s cultural strategy, promoting a positive and motivating work environment.

  • Representation: You represent the department in weekly production meetings, reporting progress and discussing solutions to any issues impeding the workflow.

  • Director Approvals: You attend Director approval meetings and help drive the agenda to ensure artistic goals are reached.

  • Engagement: You perform regular check-ins with the crew, such as walk-arounds, to maintain open lines of communication.

Furthermore, industry diversity reports indicate that women hold roughly 55% of production management positions in top-tier studios, reflecting a strong trend toward gender parity in the tactical leadership space.

DreamWorks continues to support these trends by offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, disability, or background.

Application and Selection Process

NBCUniversal’s policy is to provide equal employment opportunities to all. The selection process may include:

  1. Application Review: Ensuring your experience as a Production Coordinator aligns with department needs.
