About Us
At SM Rolling FX and SM Rolling FX, we are dedicated to transforming imaginative concepts into stunning, photorealistic visual realities. Situated in the thriving tech and creative ecosystem of Pune, our studio acts as a dynamic hub where artistic brilliance meets cutting-edge technical execution.
We take immense pride in fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and growth-oriented work environment. When you become part of our team, you are not simply stepping into a job—you are joining an inspiring community of seasoned professionals, supervisors, and passionate digital artists. We strongly believe in continuous professional development, mentorship, and empowering every team member with the right platform to refine their craft while contributing to exciting, high-profile projects across diverse media platforms.
The Role: VFX Paint Artist
As a VFX Paint Artist at our studio, you serve an indispensable role in the foundational stages of the visual effects pipeline. Paint and prep work represent the vital cleanup phase that ensures live-action plates are pristine, flawless, and ready for advanced compositing and CGI integration.
Your day-to-day work will involve meticulous frame-by-frame cleaning of plates, ensuring that unwanted elements are seamlessly eradicated while maintaining authentic film grain, lighting continuity, and camera motion. Whether you are removing complex rigs, markers, dust, scratches, or blemishes, your technical accuracy directly elevates the final cinematic quality of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rig and Wire Removal: Efficiently erase safety wires, tracking markers, studio equipment, microphones, and unwanted crew reflections from live-action plates.
- Plate Clean-Up and Restoration: Perform detailed skin retouching, object removal, blemishes cleanup, and digital patching while meticulously preserving original camera textures and film grain.
- Texture and Matte Painting Support: Create clean background plates (clean plates) by projecting textures and painting out imperfections across moving camera shots.
- Quality Assurance: Rigorously review your output frame-by-frame to prevent artifacting, swimming textures, or edge mismatches, ensuring seamless integration for downstream compositing teams.
- Pipeline Collaboration: Coordinate closely with compositors, leads, and production management to understand shot specifications, manage workloads efficiently, and meet strict delivery milestones.
- Skill Advancement: Continuously expand your technical repertoire, master new software tools, and adapt swiftly to evolving artistic and technical demands within a fast-paced studio environment.
What We Are Looking For
We are searching for dedicated, sharp-eyed individuals who possess a genuine passion for visual effects and an uncompromising commitment to visual perfection. Along with technical proficiency, your work ethic and collaborative spirit are vital to our team culture.
- Technical Competency: Proven expertise using standard industry paint and compositing software packages (such as Nuke, Silhouette, or Mocha). A strong grasp of clone stamping, warping, tracking, and clean-plate generation is essential.
- Attention to Detail: An exceptional eye for subtle textures, lighting nuances, edge consistency, and grain structure across varying camera angles and lighting conditions.
- Time Management: The capability to prioritize tasks effectively, handle high-volume shot lists, and maintain exceptional standards under tight studio deadlines.
- Team Player: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. You welcome constructive criticism, work harmoniously with peers, and thrive in a cooperative studio setting.
- On-Site Commitment: This position requires regular on-site attendance at our studio facility located in Pune, ensuring active, hands-on collaboration with your colleagues and project leads.
