We are looking for seasoned professionals who have spent years honing their craft in high-pressure VFX facilities.
1. Technical Mastery & The Nuke Workflow
Expertise: You must possess an exhaustive knowledge of Nuke. We expect our Seniors to be comfortable with deep compositing, complex 3D camera projections, and advanced color science.
Shot Architecture: You shouldn’t just follow a script; you should be able to design the approach. We need artists who can look at a complex plate and envision the most efficient, high-quality path to execution.
CG Integration: You have a flawless ability to integrate multi-pass CG assets with live-action plates, ensuring perfect matches in lighting, grain, black levels, and lens characteristics.
2. Leadership & Mentorship
Directing Talent: A Senior at BlueBolt is a leader. You will be expected to work with and provide artistic direction to Junior and Mid-level artists, helping them troubleshoot their scripts and elevate their work to studio standards.
Proactive Communication: You will report directly to the Head of 2D and VFX Supervisors. You must be able to articulate technical challenges clearly and suggest logical solutions before they become bottlenecks.
On-Set Knowledge: While not essential, any experience you have on-set (HDRI capture, witness cameras, or lens grids) is highly valued, as it informs how you handle data in the composite.
3. The “Critical Eye”
At this level, “good enough” doesn’t exist. You must have an obsessive attention to detail, catching the tiny artifacts, edge issues, or color shifts that others might miss. You are the final line of defense before a shot reaches the Supervisor’s desk.
Core Responsibilities as Senior Compositor
Execution of High-Complexity Shots
You will be assigned the “hero” shots of the production—those that require the highest level of technical skill and artistic intuition. This includes:
Solving the most difficult compositing challenges within the project.
Creating “Master Scripts” or templates that can be shared across the team to ensure look-consistency for a sequence.
Ensuring all shots under your purview meet the technical specifications for the final DI (Digital Intermediate).
Workflow & Troubleshooting
In a tight turnaround environment, logic is your best tool. You will:
Troubleshoot complex Nuke scripts for yourself and your team.
Collaborate with the CG and Matte Painting departments to ensure the elements provided are optimized for the composite.
Maintain a highly organized workflow, ensuring that versioning and naming conventions are strictly followed for the benefit of the wider pipeline.
Hybrid Work Policy
BlueBolt supports a Partially Remote workflow. While we cherish the creative energy of our London studio, we offer flexibility for home-based work. However, as a Senior artist responsible for directing others, being available for in-person collaboration and “Dailies” in London is a key component of the role.
Mandatory Requirements for Senior Compositor role
To be considered for this senior-level position, you must meet the following criteria:
UK Right to Work: You must currently reside in the UK and have the legal right to work here. (BlueBolt cannot provide visa sponsorship for this role at this time).
Known Film Credits: Your portfolio must demonstrate significant experience in a recognized VFX facility with credits on major film or high-end TV productions.
The Showreel: Your reel should showcase a variety of work, from complex CG integration to difficult “invisible” VFX. We want to see the “how” as much as the “what.”
