The Role: Breathing Life into Digital Surfaces
As a Mid-level Texture and Shading Artist at Atlantis Animation, you are an essential architect of our visual narrative. Your primary responsibility is to translate abstract concepts into tangible, immersive, and visually stunning digital materials. You are the artist who determines how light interacts with every character’s skin, how the rust on an old machine looks under a dramatic sunset, and how the vibrant environments of a fantastical universe feel authentic and alive.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Artistic Surface Creation: You will be responsible for creating, applying, and refining high-quality textures, complex materials, and sophisticated shaders for our diverse array of characters, intricate props, and expansive environments.
- Procedural & Manual Artistry: Whether it’s creating complex procedural material networks or hand-painting unique texture maps, you will ensure that every surface aligns perfectly with the overarching artistic direction of Messi and the Giants.
- Technical Optimization: Efficiency is the bedrock of production. You will be responsible for optimizing your texture files and shader networks to ensure they perform flawlessly within our rendering pipeline, maintaining high quality without compromising frame render times.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: You will be working in constant communication with our modeling, lighting, and rendering teams. Your goal is to ensure that assets transition seamlessly from the modeling phase through to final lighting, ensuring visual continuity throughout the production pipeline.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Every production presents unique challenges. You will use your technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to shading errors, UV distortion, or rendering inconsistencies.
- Pipeline Maintenance: You will maintain a highly organized workspace, ensuring that all texture assets are named, filed, and optimized according to our studio’s best practices, facilitating a smooth downstream workflow for the entire team.
Who You Are: The Ideal Artist
We are looking for a Mid-level artist who balances a refined artistic eye with a deep understanding of technical production pipelines. You don’t just see a surface; you understand how light, age, wear, and environment influence the look of everything on screen.
- Proven Experience: You have solid, professional experience in texturing and shading for high-end 3D animated films or series. You understand the unique demands of a feature or episodic pipeline.
- Software Proficiency: You are a power user of Substance Painter and Photoshop. You are comfortable navigating Maya, utilizing Arnold for your look-dev, and have a solid foundation in UVLayout workflows.
- Core Technical Knowledge: You have a deep understanding of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflows, procedural texturing techniques, and how to build flexible material systems that can hold up under various lighting conditions.
- Artistic Adaptability: Our projects often require a variety of styles. You demonstrate an ability to adapt your personal artistic flair to match the project’s specific visual language while maintaining strict visual consistency across sequences.
- Collaborative Mindset: You are a team player who actively seeks feedback and is willing to iterate on your work until it reaches the highest possible standard. You excel in a fast-paced environment where quick communication and problem-solving are daily necessities.
- Commitment to Excellence: You have an obsessive attention to detail. You understand that the difference between “good” and “great” animation often lies in the quality of the surfacing.
- Eligibility: You hold a valid EU/Spanish work permit. Please note that this is a 100% on-site role in Tenerife; you must be prepared to relocate or reside in Tenerife to participate in this project.
