Job Overview
DICE (Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment), the premier Electronic Arts studio, is seeking a meticulous and highly capable Integration Software Engineer to join our Foundation Technology Engine team. In this critical role, you will be a guardian of the build pipeline, ensuring that the code powering the next generation of the Battlefield franchise remains stable, performant, and ready for deployment. This position is ideal for a generalist engineer who thrives at the intersection of software development, systems automation, and large-scale project coordination.
Company Overview
Electronic Arts (EA) is a global leader in digital interactive entertainment, creating immersive experiences that connect millions of players worldwide. Within the EA family, DICE stands as a beacon of technical innovation. Located in Stockholm and Gothenburg, we are the creative force behind the Battlefield series—a franchise that has defined the first-person shooter genre for over two decades.
The Battlefield universe is expanding. With the upcoming launch of Battlefield 6 and the dawn of Battlefield REDSEC, our studio is collaborating with world-class teams at Criterion, Motive, and Ripple Effect. This “connected universe” is built upon our proprietary DNA and powered by the Frostbite engine. At DICE, we believe in the power of diversity and inclusion, providing a space where your technical contributions directly impact the future of global entertainment.
Integration Software Engineer – Role Overview
The Integration Software Engineer sits within the Foundation Technology Engine team. This team is the backbone of our development process, building the tools and workflows that empower hundreds of engineers and content creators across multiple continents.
As a Release Engineer within this team, your primary mission is to maintain the health of our continuous integration (CI) systems. You will not only react to build alerts and performance regressions but also proactively develop new policies and procedures to streamline our integration pipeline. This role requires a “Swiss Army Knife” approach to engineering: you must be comfortable diving into unfamiliar codebases—whether in C++, C#, Groovy, or Python—to diagnose defects, resolve merge conflicts, and ensure that every build meets our rigorous quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Management & Build Production
CI Monitoring: Act as the first line of defense by reacting to continuous integration alerts. Perform preliminary analysis of build failures and dispatch issues to the appropriate specialized engineering teams.
Toolchain Optimization: Maintain and enhance the build production toolchain to reduce iteration times and increase developer productivity across the franchise.
Release Integration: Manage the complex flow of code from development branches into release branches, ensuring that new features and bug fixes are integrated without compromising build stability.
Technical Analysis & Debugging
Data-Driven Problem Solving: Analyze automated test results and version control records to pinpoint the root cause of regressions or integration “breaks.”
Cross-Language Debugging: Engage with diverse codebases to identify defects. You will be expected to read and understand logic across a variety of languages including C++, C#, and various scripting environments.
Quality Assurance: Collaborate closely with testing teams to ensure that the “Build of the Day” is always functional and ready for internal playtests.
Policy & Process Development
Integration Strategy: Assist in the design and implementation of new integration procedures and policies that accommodate a distributed, multi-studio development model.
Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of integration results, procedures, and known issues to ensure knowledge sharing across the Foundation Technology team.
Qualifications & Technical Skills
Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional software engineering experience, specifically within a Release Engineering or Integration Engineer discipline.
C++ Proficiency: Strong generalist skills in C++, with the ability to navigate complex, large-scale systems.
Version Control: Comprehensive experience with professional version control systems (e.g., Perforce, Git, or SVN), including branching and merging strategies.
Scripting Mastery: Proficiency in at least one major scripting language, such as Python or PowerShell, to automate repetitive tasks and extend CI functionality.
Technical Skill Set (Nice to Have)
Build Systems: Direct experience with build automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, TeamCity, or internal proprietary systems).
Development Environment: Familiarity with Visual Studio, including a working knowledge of the C++ compiler and linker processes.
Problem Solving: A proven track record of debugging unfamiliar code and successfully identifying defects in a high-pressure environment.
Work Model & Culture
This is a Temporary – Full Time position that includes a comprehensive benefits package. We operate on a Hybrid model, requiring three designated days per week in our Gothenburg or Stockholm offices to foster collaboration and team synergy.
At DICE, we value:
Flexibility: The capacity to pivot between high-level policy work and deep-dive technical debugging.
Communication: The ability to translate complex technical failures into actionable reports for other engineering teams.
Inclusion: Contributing to a positive, feedback-driven culture where every engineer’s voice is valued.
Benefits and Perks
Comprehensive EU/Malaysia Benefits: Access to health and wellness programs tailored to our regional employees.
Cutting-Edge Tech: Work with Frostbite, one of the most advanced proprietary game engines in the world.
Collaborative Environment: Join a multi-studio effort involving Criterion, Motive, and Ripple Effect.
Hybrid Flexibility: A structured office presence that respects personal focus time.
Application Process
Technical Review: Our engineering leads will review your CV and GitHub/Portfolio for relevant C++ and scripting experience.
Initial Screen: A brief conversation with our talent team to discuss your background in release engineering.
Technical Assessment: An interview focused on your problem-solving approach, version control knowledge, and debugging skills.
Team Interview: A final round to meet the Foundation Technology team and discuss the integration challenges of the Battlefield franchise.
