The Role: Engineering the Player Experience
As a Gameplay Programmer at Warhorse, you sit at the intersection of design and technology. You aren’t just writing code; you are translating the creative vision of our game designers into functional, optimized, and fun gameplay systems. You will work within a cross-disciplinary team of artists, designers, and QA testers to ensure that every feature we ship is robust and enhances the overall “feel” of the game.
Key Responsibilities as Gameplay Programmer
Mechanics Implementation: Develop and maintain core gameplay mechanics based on technical designs and creative briefs from the design team.
Collaborative Development: Work closely with the entire development team to brainstorm new features, prototype ideas, and conduct iterative testing to find the “fun.”
Platform Optimization: Write highly efficient C++ code optimized for high-end PCs and modern consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X/S) to ensure a smooth, high-performance experience.
System Integration: Integrate input devices, UI elements, and HUD systems into the gameplay loop, ensuring a seamless interface between the player and the game world.
Quality Assurance & Debugging: Actively resolve bugs and address feedback from the QA and production teams to polish features to AAA standards.
Technical Documentation: Author and maintain clear documentation for your code and system implementations to ensure long-term maintainability within our codebase.
Standard Compliance: Adhere to internal coding standards and development processes to ensure a cohesive and readable project architecture.
Requirements & Qualifications
We are looking for a programmer who is technically skilled but also possesses a “gamer’s intuition.” You should be able to look at a mechanic and understand not just how to build it, but why it matters to the player.
Core Requirements
Language Skills: Professional-level proficiency in the Czech language is mandatory for this specific position to facilitate internal communication and documentation.
C++ Expertise: A strong command of C++ and a deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles within a game development context.
Project Experience: Experience working as part of a team on a game project. We value passion and effort—this could be a shipped title, an indie project, or even an ambitious, unfinished amateur mod.
Problem Solving: A proven ability to solve technical challenges independently while remaining a proactive and helpful team player.
Prototyping Skills: Experience in developing gameplay systems or rapid prototyping of mechanics to test viability.
Preferred Skills
Game Engine Knowledge: Familiarity with high-end engines (Unreal, Unity, or proprietary tech).
Mathematics: A solid grasp of 3D math (vectors, matrices, quaternions) for character movement and physics.
Optimization: Experience with profiling tools to identify and fix performance bottlenecks.
Our Commitment to Innovation & Diversity
Warhorse Studios is a community of creators who value authenticity. While we are a high-performance AAA studio, we maintain a flat hierarchy and an open-door policy. We believe that the best ideas can come from anyone, whether they are a Senior Architect or a Junior Programmer.
Recruitment with Integrity: We value the human effort behind every application. We do not use AI to screen or filter candidates. Your CV and code samples will be reviewed by our Lead Programmers and Technical Directors. We are looking for potential, logic, and a genuine love for the craft of game development.
