Gameloft Brisbane is a hub of innovation situated in the heart of Queensland, Australia. We are a studio built on the foundation of high-performance teamwork and a passion for creating immersive, cross-platform experiences. We are currently seeking a Senior 3D Character Artist—a master of digital anatomy and technical optimization—to join our seasoned team.
In this role, you aren’t just creating assets; you are crafting the digital souls of our games. From initial high-poly sculpts to real-time engine implementation, your work will define the visual quality of our upcoming titles.
The Mission: Defining the Gameloft Brisbane Aesthetic
As a Senior Character Artist, your contribution is pivotal. You sit at the intersection of creative vision and technical reality. You will be responsible for a substantial portion of character assets, taking them from concept through final implementation and testing.
Key Responsibilities
1. High-End Asset Creation
You will lead by example, producing top-tier 3D models that serve as the gold standard for the project. This involves:
High-Poly Sculpting: Using ZBrush to create intricate, anatomically correct, and aesthetically compelling characters and creatures.
PBR Texturing: Creating physically accurate materials in Substance Painter that respond dynamically to real-time lighting.
Game-Ready Optimization: Mastering the retopology process to ensure high-fidelity silhouettes within strict polygon budgets.
2. Technical Leadership & Prototyping
The “Senior” title at Gameloft Brisbane carries the weight of technical innovation. You will:
Pipeline Development: Prototype new technologies and workflows on target platforms to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Documentation: Create clear technical guides and workflow documentation to ensure best practices are standardized across the team.
Budgeting: Assist in defining technical budgets for character art production to ensure performance stability on cross-platform projects.
3. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Characters do not exist in a vacuum. You will work closely with:
Designers: To ensure character proportions and silhouettes support gameplay mechanics and readability.
Graphics Programmers: To understand the impact of real-time lighting and shaders on your models.
Rigging/Animation: To ensure your topology allows for the complex deformation required for realistic acting and movement.
What You Need to Succeed
Gameloft Brisbane is looking for an artist who possesses a “detective’s eye” for detail and an “engineer’s mind” for efficiency.
Professional Experience
The 5-Year Benchmark: You must have at least 5 years of professional production experience within a game studio environment.
Shipped Titles: A proven track record of bringing characters from concept to a shipped, real-time environment.
Technical Mastery
Software Proficiency: Expert knowledge of Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter.
Real-Time Savvy: A deep understanding of how lighting, shaders, and engine constraints (draw calls, vertex counts) affect character art.
Unreal Engine (Bonus): While we work across platforms, specific knowledge of the Unreal Engine pipeline is highly regarded.
Soft Skills & Leadership
Mentorship: You enjoy guiding junior artists, providing constructive feedback, and helping others level up their skills.
Communication: The ability to convey complex technical or artistic information to non-artistic departments, such as production or code.
