The Role: Architecting Atmosphere

At DossGuavaXR, the role of a Lighting Artist goes far beyond simply placing lights in a scene. You will be a critical part of our creative process, responsible for designing cinematic lighting that sets the emotional tone, guides the viewer’s eye, and elevates the narrative arc of our virtual production projects.

You will be working in Unreal Engine, the industry leader in real-time rendering, to create environments that feel grounded, alive, and visually breathtaking. Whether we are crafting hyper-realistic interiors or otherworldly fantastical landscapes, your work will be the final layer of polish that transforms a 3D model into a compelling visual experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cinematic Lighting Design: Translate scripts, storyboards, and director notes into cohesive lighting schemes that serve the story. You will be responsible for defining the “look and feel” of our projects.
  • Unreal Engine Mastery: Utilize the full suite of lighting tools within Unreal Engine—including Lumen, ray tracing, and real-time volumetric effects—to achieve world-class visual fidelity.
  • Atmosphere & Depth: Use shadow, contrast, color temperature, and post-processing techniques to create depth, realism, and emotional resonance in every frame.
  • Pipeline Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with our environment artists, look-dev specialists, and compositors to ensure that lighting remains consistent and performant across the entire production pipeline.
  • Performance Optimization: Balance visual beauty with the technical constraints of real-time rendering, ensuring our projects run seamlessly without compromising on quality.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay ahead of the curve by researching and implementing the latest lighting technologies and workflows in the XR and virtual production space.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a dedicated artist who balances a refined artistic eye with a deep understanding of technical optimization.

Core Requirements:

  • Professional Expertise: Proven experience in 3D lighting, ideally within the gaming, film, or virtual production industries.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Unreal Engine is essential. You should be comfortable with dynamic lighting, global illumination, and post-process volumes.
  • Artistic Vision: A strong foundation in traditional cinematography principles—including light direction, color theory, composition, and exposure.
  • Portfolio: A standout portfolio or showreel is required. We want to see examples that demonstrate your ability to create diverse atmospheres, from subtle, realistic interiors to dramatic, stylized outdoor environments.
  • Collaboration: A proactive communicator who thrives in a team-based studio environment. You should be open to feedback and capable of iterating quickly based on the needs of the project.
  • Passion: A genuine, contagious enthusiasm for visual storytelling and a desire to be at the leading edge of virtual production.
