The Role: Defining Real-Time Workflows
As an Unreal Technical Director, you will be at the forefront of the shift toward real-time technology in VFX and feature animation. You will not only build the tools that empower our artists but also integrate Unreal Engine into DNEG’s sophisticated proprietary pipeline. This role is about efficiency and empowerment; you will be the bridge that ensures our global teams can leverage the speed and power of Unreal to deliver world-class imagery without compromising on quality.

Key Responsibilities
Your daily contributions will have a direct impact on our production capability:
Tool Development: Design, build, and deliver high-performance tools that streamline workflows for artists across various VFX and animation disciplines.
Pipeline Integration: Actively bridge the gap between Unreal Engine and DNEG’s proprietary production environment, ensuring seamless data flow and compatibility.
Production Partnership: Collaborate closely with production stakeholders and technology teams to understand the unique challenges of each project and provide immediate, effective technical support.
Documentation & Training: Author comprehensive documentation and workflow guides, helping our artists master the tools you build.
Validation & Support: Test, validate, and troubleshoot tools in a live production environment, ensuring stability across multiple concurrent film projects.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking an experienced technologist who understands the unique demands of the visual effects industry.
Technical Expertise: Strong, hands-on experience with Unreal Engine, including deep knowledge of Blueprints, C++, and Python.
Pipeline Literacy: Solid understanding of both Linux and Windows environments, as well as experience with source control and team-based software development.
Industry Experience: A proven track record in VFX, Feature Animation, or the Games industry.
Problem-Solving Mindset: A proactive, curious approach to technical challenges; you should be comfortable working in an agile environment where requirements evolve alongside the creative needs of a film.
Bonus Skills: Experience in Multi-user Unreal development, VR/AR applications, or Virtual Production is a significant advantage. Familiarity with Houdini, Maya, Nuke, Solaris, or Katana will help you hit the ground running.
