Company Overview

At Electronic Arts, we exist to inspire the world to play. We are a global leader in digital interactive entertainment, developing and delivering games, content, and online services for Internet-connected consoles, mobile devices, and personal computers.

DICE, a cornerstone of the EA Studios family, is the creative powerhouse behind the world-renowned Battlefield series. With world-class offices in Stockholm and Gothenburg, we pride ourselves on a culture of inclusion, innovation, and technical excellence. Our team is a collective of digital artists, designers, and engineers who share a singular passion: pushing the envelope of the Frostbite engine to create immersive, high-fidelity experiences that resonate with millions of players worldwide. At DICE, your ideas are not just heard—they are the fuel for our next breakthrough.

Role Overview

The Senior Cinematic Artist is a “Generalist Plus” role designed for a storyteller who possesses both the soul of an artist and the mind of a technician. You will join a high-performing pod of experts focused on enhancing the visual storytelling of our most ambitious Battlefield project to date.

In this capacity, you will own the cinematic pipeline from “whitebox” previs to final-pixel polish. You are expected to be a master of cinematic language—understanding how camera placement, lighting, and pacing can evoke emotion and drive gameplay. Beyond individual contribution, you will act as a cornerstone of the department, mentoring junior talent and collaborating directly with the Cinematic Director and Level Designers to ensure a seamless transition between gameplay and narrative sequences.

Key Responsibilities

Cinematic Production & Implementation

  • End-to-End Execution: Drive the creation of cinematic content from initial shot layout and previs through to final rendering and VFX integration within the Frostbite engine.

  • Interactive Scripting: Utilize visual scripting and proprietary tools to trigger interactive moments and cinematic events, ensuring they synchronize perfectly with game mechanics.

  • Technical Prototyping: Partner with the technical art team to explore new workflows, prototype cinematic sequences, and stress-test the limits of real-time rendering.

  • Visual Excellence: Ensure every frame meets the “world-class” standard expected of a DICE title, focusing on composition, lighting, and high-fidelity animation.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Pod Leadership: Serve as a lead within a multidisciplinary pod structure, coordinating efforts across animation, lighting, and design to deliver cohesive PVE and PVP experiences.

  • Talent Development: Actively mentor junior and mid-level artists, providing constructive feedback and helping them refine their craft and technical efficiency.

  • Workflow Optimization: Evaluate current cinematic pipelines and propose strategic improvements to increase throughput and creative freedom for the entire team.

Strategic Collaboration

  • Creative Alignment: Work in lockstep with the Cinematic Director to translate the high-level vision into actionable production tasks.

  • Interdisciplinary Integration: Liaise with Level Designers and Gameplay Engineers to ensure that cinematics enhance, rather than disrupt, the player’s flow and immersion.

Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory Requirements

  • Proven Track Record: A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in a cinematic-focused role within AAA game development or high-end Film/TV VFX.

  • Portfolio: A comprehensive reel demonstrating a sophisticated understanding of camera composition, cinematic timing, and visual storytelling.

  • Industry Context: Deep experience working within a commercial studio environment, managing deadlines, and navigating complex production pipelines.

  • Foundational Skills: Expert-level proficiency in 3D skillsets, specifically in shot layout, staging, and character animation.

Technical Proficiency

  • Core Software: Advanced knowledge of Autodesk Maya and Motion Builder for layout and animation workflows.

  • Engine Experience: While Frostbite experience is a plus, a high degree of proficiency in modern real-time engines (Unreal Engine, Unity, etc.) is essential.

  • Creative Suite: Mastery of the Adobe Creative Suite, with a focus on Premiere Pro for editing, Photoshop for texture/matte work, and After Effects for compositing.

  • Lighting & Rendering: A strong eye for lighting, whether within a game engine environment or a standard 3D package (Arnold, V-Ray, etc.).

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Priority Management: The ability to “paint with broad strokes”—rapidly proving out a concept before committing to high-detail polish.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate technical constraints to creative leads and creative goals to technical leads.

  • Adaptability: A passion for learning new software and a proactive approach to solving production bottlenecks.

Benefits and Perks

We believe that a creative team thrives when they are supported both professionally and personally. EA and DICE offer a robust benefits package, including:

  • Health & Wellbeing: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, alongside wellness programs and mental health support.

  • Work-Life Balance: Our hybrid work model provides the flexibility to balance office collaboration with home-based productivity.

  • Professional Growth: Access to internal training, industry conferences, and a clear career progression path within EA Studios.

  • Relocation Support: Comprehensive assistance for eligible candidates moving to Stockholm or Guildford.

  • The Perks: Employee stock purchase plans, generous paid time off, and, of course, free EA games and merchandise.
