What You Will Work On: Studio Projects

At Rural Games, we believe that interns learn best by contributing to real, active studio workflows. You will not be tucked away in a corner; you will be an integral part of our art division, producing prop assets that thousands of players will interact with on Steam.

Your artistic efforts will directly support our current flagship titles:

  • Platform 13: A terrifying, psychological horror experience where chilling, story-driven objects, eerie artifacts, and detailed set-dressing props are essential for building suffocating suspense.
  • Zero Drag: An action-packed, open-world crime game built for high-speed thrills, requiring gritty weapons, urban street clutter, and high-performance vehicles.

Your core focus will be Hard-Surface and Organic Prop Creation, translating conceptual ideas into optimized, fully realized 3D items.

What You Will Do: Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As our 3D Prop Artist Internship participant, your day-to-day activities will be dynamic, creative, and technical. You will be responsible for:

  • Prop Modeling: Create detailed high-poly and low-poly props, weapons, vehicles, and everyday items strictly using Blender.
  • UV Unwrapping & Atlases: Execute efficient UV unwrapping strategies and texture atlas mapping to maximize performance.
  • PBR Texturing: Develop realistic Physically Based Rendering (PBR) textures to ensure authentic material definitions across different lighting conditions.
  • Mesh Optimization: Optimize geometry, reduce polygon counts, and meet strict performance constraints for game engines.
  • Engine Exporting: Organize asset hierarchies and export polished props directly into our development pipeline.

Who We Are Looking For: Candidate Criteria

We are looking for dedicated 3D prop artists who combine technical tool proficiency in Blender with a sharp eye for scale, proportion, and surface detail.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Blender for modeling and prop creation (Strictly Required).
  • Strong command of both hard-surface and organic modeling techniques.
  • A solid understanding of PBR texturing pipelines and material properties.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, real-world scale, and spatial proportion.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Experience using Substance Painter for detailed texturing and weathering effects.
  • Familiarity with importing and setting up assets within game engines.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing individual prop breakdowns and wireframes.
