Company Overview: The Soul Behind the Frame
Eyeline Studios is a global powerhouse of creative innovators, risk-takers, and perfectionists. We partner with the world’s most ambitious storytellers to transform visionary concepts into stunning cinematic realities. Our studio operates on three foundational pillars—VFX, Studios, and Labs—which together serve as the creative spine of our organization. We believe that while technology is the vessel, our people are the soul of the work, deepening creative connections in every frame.
Bolstered by a significant strategic investment from Netflix, Eyeline is pushing the absolute boundaries of pipeline infrastructure and virtual production technology. While our partnership with Netflix drives massive innovation, we continue to serve a diverse portfolio of long-standing global clients. In our Hyderabad studio, we offer a high-energy, collaborative environment for artists who are passionate about their craft and eager to push the limits of digital storytelling.
Role Overview
As the Lead CFX Artist in Hyderabad, you will occupy a critical leadership position at the intersection of technical simulation and artistic performance. You will be responsible for managing a dedicated team of CFX artists, overseeing the delivery of high-end character effects—including complex cloth, hair, groom, and muscle simulations—for major global feature films and episodic content.
This role requires an individual who is both a master technician and an inspiring mentor. You will not only execute complex shots but also serve as the primary point of contact for the show supervision team, ensuring that artistic visions are realized within strict production schedules. You will be tasked with maintaining a “high standard of quality” across all assets, ensuring that anatomical deformation and physical dynamics are indistinguishable from reality.
Key Responsibilities
I. Team Leadership & Mentorship
Direct Management: Lead and manage a team of CFX artists, providing consistent creative guidance, technical support, and constructive feedback.
Talent Development: Mentor and train junior-to-mid-level artists, fostering their professional growth and ensuring the department’s skill set evolves with industry trends.
Performance Excellence: Foster a culture of precision and artistic excellence, ensuring the team remains motivated under the pressure of tight deadlines.
II. Technical Oversight & Workflow Innovation
Asset Development: Oversee the creation and execution of CFX assets, ensuring cloth, hair, muscle, and groom simulations meet the rigorous technical requirements of the studio.
Workflow Optimization: Develop and implement efficient CFX tools and automated workflows to streamline production and reduce turnaround times.
Problem Solving: Act as the final line of defense for troubleshooting complex CFX issues, identifying creative solutions for “impossible” shots.
III. Integration & Production Strategy
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner closely with Animation, Modeling, Rigging, and Lighting departments to ensure the seamless integration of CFX elements into the broader pipeline.
Production Planning: Participate in bidding and scheduling discussions, providing accurate estimates for CFX workloads and resource requirements.
Quality Assurance: Collaborate with CFX Department Supervisors and Show Supervisors to maintain visual consistency across all sequences in a project.
Documentation: Contribute to the studio’s knowledge base by developing departmental best practices and comprehensive technical documentation.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Academic & Professional Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Graphics, Animation, or a related field, or equivalent high-level professional experience.
Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of dedicated CFX simulation experience in live-action VFX for feature films or high-end episodic series.
Leadership Track Record: Proven experience in a leadership, supervisory, or “Key Artist” role within a professional VFX studio.
Portfolio: A world-class portfolio showcasing a diverse range of character effects work (cloth, hair, muscle).
Technical Skills & Expertise
Industry Software: Expert-level proficiency in Maya and Houdini is mandatory.
Dynamics Mastery: A profound understanding of anatomical deformation, cloth and hair dynamics, and the core principles of physical simulation.
Pipeline Literacy: Excellent understanding of global VFX pipelines and end-to-end production workflows.
Preferred “Plus” Qualifications
Scripting: Familiarity with Python or VEX for pipeline customization.
Character Setup: Hands-on experience with rigging and character technical setup.
Grooming: Experience in CG Grooming using tools like Xgen or Houdini is highly valued.
Core Competencies
Artistic Eye: Exceptional attention to detail and an innate sense of physical realism.
Resilience: The ability to work effectively under pressure and deliver high-quality results within tight deadline and budget constraints.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical artists and creative supervisors.
Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage both artistic output and team administrative needs.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This is an on-site role in Hyderabad, India. Eyeline Studios values the collaborative energy and rapid problem-solving that occur in a shared physical workspace.
Location: Candidates must be currently based in Hyderabad or be willing to relocate.
Schedule: Ability to adhere to project deadlines, which may occasionally require flexibility during peak production periods.
Interaction: Frequent collaboration via in-person meetings, dailies, and cross-departmental reviews.
