Beffio Studio is hiring: Lead 3D Character Artist – Remote / Permanent Locations: Warsaw, Poland | Madrid, Spain | Berlin, Germany (Fully Remote)Job Type: Permanent | Remote About the Role Beffio Studio is looking for an experienced Lead 3D Character Artist to join our team. In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll guide the character art pipeline from creative vision to engine-ready implementation. You’ll lead both internal and external artists, set quality standards, and create stunning characters in both stylized and realistic styles. This role is perfect for someone who has shipped 1–2 AA or AAA titles, understands what makes a character memorable, and enjoys working in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment. You’ll work across Unity3D and Unreal Engine to raise both artistic and technical standards for every project. Key Responsibilities Lead the Vision: Define artistic direction and quality standards for characters across multiple projects and styles. Mentor & Review: Support character artists with constructive feedback and growth opportunities. Create Hero Assets: Deliver high-quality character models, including sculpting, retopology, texturing, and engine integration. Pipeline Setup & Optimization: Establish efficient workflows for stylized and realistic characters, ensuring clean topology and real-time engine optimization. Engine Integration: Prepare assets for Unity3D and Unreal Engine, ensuring compatibility with shaders, materials, and performance requirements. Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Work closely with Art Directors, Producers, Tech Artists, and Animators to ensure characters serve gameplay and artistic goals. Freelancer Oversight: Review and support external artists to maintain internal standards. Client Communication: Join select client meetings to align on visual direction or provide feedback when needed. Requirements Shipped Titles: At least 1–2 AA or AAA games as a character artist. Stylistic Versatility: Ability to create both stylized and realistic characters. Technical Skills: Expert in ZBrush sculpting, retopology, PBR workflows (Substance Painter/Designer), and UV mapping. Engine Experience: Proficient in Unity3D and Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5), including material setup and asset implementation. Leadership: Experience mentoring artists or leading a small character team. Quality Awareness: Strong understanding of anatomy, form, proportions, silhouette, and overall visual quality. Performance Optimization: Knowledge of LODs, poly budgets, texture memory, and clean deformation for rigs and animation. Communication: Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written skills. Portfolio: Strong portfolio showing production-ready stylized and realistic characters. Bonus Skills Experience with Marvelous Designer or cloth simulation. Basic rigging and deformation knowledge. Shader/material creation experience. Experience working with remote teams and freelancers. Passion for character design, storytelling, and game development.
