Purpose of the Role
The Senior Matchmove Artist is a critical role responsible for the quick, efficient, and high-quality delivery of complex matchmove shots. You will leverage expert knowledge to execute advanced Camera MM, Roto-animation, object tracks, and shot sculpting, while providing technical guidance and quality control for the team.
🌟 Duties & Responsibilities
- Advanced Matchmoving Expertise: Precisely perform complex camera tracking, rotoanimation, lens distortion correction, animated distortion, shot sculpting, photogrammetry, and custom set building.
- Technical Leadership: Set up the technical approach for matchmove work across individual shots, sequences, or entire aspects of a show, guided by the Lead.
- Pipeline Execution: Set up sequences, create witness camera and photo lineups, and model necessary set geometry.
- Mentorship & Quality Control (QC): Act as an example and provide mentorship to junior artists. Administer final QC checks on personal work and occasionally assist Leads with checking junior artist work.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with team members and Leads, troubleshoot challenging shots, and recommend solutions with minimal guidance.
- Outsourcing Support: Assist with ingesting and packaging shots for external resources.
🛠️ Education, Experience & Skills

| Technical Understanding | Strong grasp of on-set photography and filmmaking (camera rigs, movement). Confident grasp of the overall visual effects workflow. | Experience with Photogrammetry, Photography, Lidar, Total station data, and survey. Ability to script in MEL and Python. |
| Core Skills | Excellent time management and communication skills. Keen eye for detail, troubleshooting ability, and strong personal QC skills. Adaptable to production schedule changes. Awareness of animation principles. |
