  • Workstation Support: Act as the first point of contact for physical workstation issues. You will carry out workstation moves between rooms, floors, and sites smoothly and efficiently to accommodate shifting project needs.
  • Peripheral Management: Manage and fulfill requests for specialized peripherals, including high-resolution monitors, mechanical keyboards, Wacom tablets, and other high-end workstation equipment.
  • Inventory & Logistics: Store, source, and deliver equipment to and from employees. You will be responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of all technical assets within the Sydney facility.
  • Vendor Liaison: Deal directly with major vendors like Dell and HP for part replacements, warranty claims, and hardware upgrades.
  • Data Center Operations: Visit the on-site or regional Data Centre to mount servers, manage cabling, and replace problematic hardware components.
  • Ticketing & Reporting: Utilize an enterprise ticketing system to log, track, and report technical problems, ensuring no issue falls through the cracks.
  • OS Deployment: Perform OS installations and basic troubleshooting across Linux, macOS, and Windows environments.
  • Image Quality Control (QC): Learn the art of “Image Science” by performing monitor and projector calibrations and maintaining the specialized viewing environments required for final film review.

Requirements: What You Need to Succeed

We don’t expect you to know everything on day one, but we do expect a strong technical foundation and a hunger to learn. This role is as much about people as it is about computers.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Technical Literacy: A fundamental knowledge of computer hardware. You should know how to dismantle and set up a basic workstation from scratch.
  • Hardware Troubleshooting: The ability to assemble, dismantle, and identify basic hardware failures in a workstation environment.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Exceptional interpersonal skills. You will be interacting with everyone from junior artists to executive producers.
  • Communication: Fluency in English (both verbal and written) is essential for documenting technical issues and communicating with the team.
  • Professional Manner: A professional and friendly phone manner and a helpful “desk-side” presence.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • OS Knowledge: Any prior experience with Linux (command line basics) is a significant advantage in a VFX environment.
  • Passionate Interest: A demonstrated interest in the VFX/Animation industry or high-end computer graphics hardware.
  • Physical Agility: Since the role involves moving equipment and mounting servers, you should be comfortable with the physical aspects of hardware management.

About You: The Cultural Fit

At DNEG, we value “soft skills” just as much as technical ability. We are looking for a specific mindset that thrives in a collaborative, high-stakes studio.

  • The Enthusiast: You are genuinely excited about technology and its application in the film industry.
  • The Pro-active Problem Solver: You don’t wait to be told what to do; you see a cable that needs tidying or a monitor that needs calibrating and you take initiative.
  • The People Person: You truly enjoy helping people and find satisfaction in solving a technical problem that was holding an artist back.
  • The Hard Worker: You are reliable, punctual, and willing to go the extra mile during busy production periods.
  • The Confident Learner: You are confident in using your initiative but also know when to ask for guidance from senior engineers.

Workplace Flexibility & Location

Our Sydney Office: Great technology support happens through connection and collaboration. Our Sydney office is a beautiful, high-tech space where our team comes together to solve complex problems. For this role, we ask that candidates be available to work from the office daily or at least follow the studio’s hybrid model (minimum two days per week), though as a Tech Junior, in-person hardware support is a primary focus.

Relocation & Eligibility: The ideal candidate must have the right to work in Australia. If you are not currently based in Sydney, you must be prepared to relocate to the area to be eligible for this position.

Why Join DNEG Technology?

Joining DNEG means becoming part of a 9,000-strong global family. Our Technology department is the foundation upon which movies like Dune, Interstellar, and Spider-Verse are built.

  • Diversity & Inclusion: We believe that embracing our differences is vital to our collective success. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, experiences, and abilities.
  • Career Path: Many of our senior systems engineers and pipeline TDs started as Tech Juniors. We provide the mentorship and environment for you to move up the ladder.
  • Cutting-Edge Tech: Get hands-on experience with the most powerful hardware and specialized display technology in the world.
