Your Role: The Architect of the Shot

As a 3D Layout Artist Trainee, you are the “Cinematographer” of the 3D world. You will work closely with the creative team to interpret scripts and storyboards, transforming flat drawings into dynamic, cinematic sequences. This role is a vital training ground where you will develop a professional eye for composition, timing, and continuity.

Core Responsibilities & Learning Objectives:

  • Script Interpretation: Learn to conceptualize the series script based on instructions from the Creative Director and Art Leads, ensuring the narrative intent is preserved in 3D space.
  • Scene Assembly: Practice creating complex shots by placing characters, props, and environment assets according to the storyboard or previz.
  • Staging & Posing: Place characters in key poses to define their actions and movements, providing a clear blueprint for the character animation team.
  • Cinematography: Define and animate camera angles, focal lengths, and movements to enhance the emotional impact of the scene.
  • Continuity & Quality: Learn the discipline of checking for conformity and continuity across sequences, ensuring a seamless viewing experience for the audience.
  • Production Workflow: Manage your time effectively to meet production quotas and deadlines set by the Production Coordinator, a crucial skill for any professional artist.
  • Feedback Integration: Develop an “analytic mind” by executing corrections requested by Supervisors, learning how to iterate on your work without losing creative momentum.

Who You Are: Qualifications & Skills as 3D Layout Artist

We are looking for candidates who possess a blend of artistic intuition and technical discipline. This role is specifically for individuals currently enrolled in an educational institution who can sign a Collaboration Agreement.

Technical & Academic Requirements as 3D Layout Artist:

  • Education: A current student or recent graduate with a College Diploma or Degree in 3D Graphic Arts or Animation.
  • Software Mastery: Excellent foundational knowledge of Autodesk Maya. You should be comfortable with camera tools, basic rigging, and scene management.
  • Cinematic Eye: A strong natural eye for image composition, lighting cues, and camera direction. You should understand the “language of film.”
  • Narrative Strength: A strong ability to tell a story through staging. You understand how the placement of a character can change the meaning of a shot.
  • The “ShotGrid” Advantage: Familiarity with asset management tools like Shotgun (ShotGrid) is a significant plus, as it is the backbone of our production tracking.

Personal Attributes:

  • Communication: Proactive in seeking information and communicating with the team. You aren’t afraid to ask “why” or “how.”
  • Team Dynamics: A positive attitude and a desire to contribute to a healthy, high-energy studio environment.
  • Adaptability: A hunger to learn new tools and adapt to the specific “Amuse style” of digital-first animation.
