Rendering Engineer Stellar Entertainment

The Studio Vision: Crafting the Future of AAA

As a Rendering Engineer at Stellar Entertainment, you’ll bridge the gap between artistic vision and technical execution. Working in Unreal Engine 5, you will develop and optimize the rendering features and shaders that power our unannounced AAA project.

Stellar Entertainment is not just a game developer; we are architects of digital emotion. With dual headquarters in the “Hollywood of Gaming”—Guildford, UK—and the historic tech-centric city of Utrecht, Netherlands, we operate at the bleeding edge of the industry. We believe that a truly immersive AAA experience is born from the perfect equilibrium between gameplay mechanics and visual fidelity.

We are currently entering the most exciting phase in our studio’s history as we begin development on a major unannounced project. This project is designed to push the technical boundaries of current-generation hardware, and we are looking for a Rendering Engineer who possesses the technical curiosity and mathematical rigor to help us redefine what “real-time” can achieve.

As a Rendering Engineer at Stellar Entertainment, you will be the bridge between high-level artistic ambition and the silicon of the GPU. You will sit within our elite Engineering team, working hand-in-hand with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Graphics Programmers to build, maintain, and optimize the rendering pipelines that power our worlds.

This is a role for a problem-solver who finds beauty in a well-optimized shader and excitement in the challenge of maintaining 60 FPS while delivering cinematic-grade visuals. You will contribute to the core technology that allows our artists to “inspire and amaze” our players, ensuring that every pixel on screen serves the narrative and the gameplay experience.

Core Responsibilities & Technical Objectives

1. Rendering Feature Development

  • Shader & Lighting Systems: Assist in the implementation and refinement of advanced shaders and lighting systems. You will work on everything from atmospheric scattering and volumetric lighting to complex material responses.
  • Pipeline Enhancement: Collaborate with senior engineers to maintain and enhance the rendering pipeline within Unreal Engine, ensuring it remains robust enough to handle the demands of a high-fidelity AAA project.
  • R&D: Conduct research into cutting-edge rendering techniques. Whether it’s exploring the latest in ray-tracing, mesh shaders, or advanced temporal upscaling, you will help keep the studio at the forefront of graphics technology.

2. Optimization & Performance

  • Memory Management: Monitor and optimize GPU and CPU memory usage. You will ensure that our visual ambitions don’t exceed the hardware constraints of modern consoles and PC configurations.
  • Frame Rate Stability: Profile the rendering pipeline to identify bottlenecks. You will implement clever algorithmic solutions to ensure smooth, high-performance gameplay across all target platforms.
  • Bug Squashing: Work diligently with the wider engineering team to identify, reproduce, and resolve complex rendering artifacts and hardware-specific bugs.

3. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration

  • Bridging Art & Code: Coordinate across teams to help artists realize their visual goals within the technical constraints of the engine.
  • Documentation: Contribute to technical documentation and shared knowledge bases, ensuring that the rendering tools you build are accessible and understandable for the art team.
  • Code Quality: Participate in code reviews and adhere to studio-wide programming standards, ensuring that our codebase remains clean, scalable, and maintainable.

Candidate Requirements for Rendering Engineer

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Industry Experience: A proven track record in a Rendering or Graphics role within the gaming industry, specifically working within the Unreal Engine environment.
  • Programming Mastery: Strong proficiency in C++. You should be comfortable writing high-performance, multi-threaded code.
  • Mathematical Foundation: Exceptional expertise in 3D Mathematics (Linear Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry). You must be able to translate complex mathematical concepts into efficient code.
  • Shaders & Algorithms: Deep knowledge of modern rendering techniques, including Experience with shader programming (HLSL/GLSL) and real-time lighting algorithms.
  • Optimization Savvy: A firm understanding of the rendering hardware architecture and experience using profiling tools (such as PIX, RenderDoc, or Razor) to optimize performance.

Preferred “Bonus” Qualifications

  • Polyglot Programming: Proficiency in one or two additional programming languages (e.g., Python for tooling, or C#).
  • Multiplayer Experience: Previous experience working on large-scale, real-time multiplayer games, understanding the unique rendering challenges associated with network latency and synchronization.

Global Benefits & Perks

Stellar Entertainment pride ourselves on offering a supportive, high-performance environment. Our benefits are tailored to the specific needs of our two primary locations:

Technical Deep-Dive: Why This Role Matters

In the current landscape of AAA development, the Rendering Engineer is more than a “coder”—you are a visual translator. At Stellar Entertainment, we are moving away from standard “out of the box” solutions and looking to tailor the engine to the specific needs of our unannounced IP.

You will have the opportunity to work with Nanite and Lumen in ways that haven’t been seen yet, contributing to a project that values “how the game makes you feel” as much as how it plays. If you are passionate about the intersection of light, math, and high-performance engineering, Stellar Entertainment is your next home.

How to Apply

Ready to push the boundaries of what’s possible visually? We want to see your technical prowess and your passion for pixels. Please submit your application including:

1. Technical CV: Highlighting your experience with C++, Unreal Engine, and specific rendering features you’ve developed.
2. Portfolio/GitHub: Any demos, code samples, or visual breakdowns of your rendering work.
