Triumph Studios hiring C++ Programming Internship

Triumph Studios, the acclaimed developer behind the Age of Wonders franchise and a proud member of the Paradox Interactive family, is seeking a brilliant mind to join our engineering department. We are looking for a C++ Programming Intern for the second half of 2026 to help us refine our custom engine technology and build the systems that power our next generation of titles.

Based in the tech-centric city of Delft, this internship offers a rare opportunity to work “under the hood” of a professional game studio. At Triumph, our programmers aren’t just cogs in a machine; they are architects of gameplay, builders of tools, and solvers of complex logical puzzles. If you live and breathe C++, we want to help you turn that passion into a career.

Job Overview: C++ Programming Intern

Company NameTriumph Studios (Paradox Interactive)
Role TitleC++ Programming Intern
Job TypeInternship (Educational Placement)
DurationMinimum 5 Months
LocationOn-site: Delft, Netherlands
Estimated Salary/Stipend€400 – €600 per month (Standard NL Internship Allowance)

The Role: Engineering Excellence

As a C++ Programming Intern at Triumph Studios, you will be integrated directly into our coding team. You will work on production-level code, contributing to the very same tools and systems used by our senior developers. We believe in “learning by doing,” so expect to be challenged with meaningful tasks from day one.

Your Potential Areas of Impact:

  • Gameplay Systems: Implementing mechanics for strategy and RPG elements, ensuring smooth interactions and balanced logic.
  • Engine Development: Assisting in the maintenance and optimization of our proprietary custom engine, focusing on performance and stability.
  • Tools Programming: Developing and refining internal tools that empower our artists and designers to work more efficiently.
  • UI/UX Implementation: Bridging the gap between design and functionality by coding responsive and intuitive user interfaces.
  • Bug Fixing & Optimization: Identifying bottlenecks in the codebase and providing elegant, efficient solutions.

Technical Requirements & Qualifications

Triumph Studios is looking for candidates who possess a deep curiosity for how games work at a fundamental level. Because we work with a custom engine, a strong grasp of core programming principles is essential.

  • Educational Status: You must be currently enrolled in a Dutch or Belgian university or hogeschool in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Game Engineering, Software Development).
  • C++ Mastery: A solid foundation in C++ and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP). You should be comfortable with memory management, pointers, and data structures.
  • Location: You must be able to work on-site at our studio in Delft. Remote-only internships are not available for this role.
  • Duration: Candidates must be available for a minimum of 5 months to ensure a meaningful learning experience and project contribution.
  • Language: Professional proficiency in English is required, as we are an international studio.

The “Triumph” Edge: Why Intern With Us?

Triumph Studios offers an environment where high-level engineering meets creative freedom. We are small enough that your individual contributions are visible, but large enough to provide the security and resources of Paradox Interactive.

What You Will Gain:

  1. Proprietary Tech Experience: Most studios use off-the-shelf engines. Here, you get the unique experience of working on a custom engine, giving you a deeper understanding of game architecture.

  2. Expert Guidance: You will be paired with a mentor—a senior developer who will provide code reviews, technical advice, and career coaching.

  3. The Paradox Network: Being part of Triumph means you are part of the broader Paradox Interactive community, a global leader in the Grand Strategy and Management genres.

  4. A Vibrant Culture: We have a passion for games that borders on the obsessive. From board game nights to Friday afternoon drinks, you’ll be part of a community that loves the craft as much as you do.

Portfolio & Application Guidelines

Triumph Studios don’t just want to see your grades; we want to see your code. A strong application includes an extensive portfolio or a link to a GitHub repository.

We are particularly interested in:

  • Game Mods: Experience modifying existing games (especially Paradox titles) is a massive plus.
  • Hobby Projects: Show us a small engine you built, a physics simulation, or a gameplay prototype.
  • Clean Code: We look for well-documented, readable, and efficient code. Show us that you care about the “how” as much as the “what.”
  • Problem Solving: Be prepared to discuss technical challenges you’ve faced and how you overcame them.

“A great programmer at Triumph isn’t just someone who can write syntax; it’s someone who can translate a designer’s dream into a functional, optimized reality.”
