The Role: Storyboard Artist

The Storyboard Artist is the architect of our visual narrative. You will be responsible for translating scripts and creative briefs into a series of impactful sketches that serve as the blueprint for the entire production. We are looking for an artist who can not only draw beautifully but also understands the nuances of cinematography, pacing, and character performance.

As a Mid-Level Artist, you will take ownership of specific sequences, ensuring they align with the director’s vision while maintaining technical feasibility. As a Senior-Level Artist, you will play a pivotal role in visual development, mentoring junior artists, and helping to establish the overarching aesthetic and cinematic tone of our most ambitious projects.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Visual Blueprinting: Create detailed storyboard panels that clearly define action, emotion, and cinematic composition.
• Script Interpretation: Analyze scripts to identify key narrative beats and translate them into visual sequences that enhance the story.
• Cinematography & Layout: Apply advanced knowledge of camera angles, lenses, lighting, and movement to create dynamic and engaging shots.
• Character Performance: Effectively communicate character intent, facial expressions, and body language through clear, expressive posing.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Director, Art Director, and Layout team to ensure a seamless transition from board to 3D/2D production.
• Iterative Refinement: Incorporate feedback from creative leads quickly and efficiently, often working through multiple versions to find the most effective storytelling solution.
• Pacing & Timing: Ensure that the visual flow of the boards aligns with the intended emotional arc and rhythm of the project.
• Technical Quality: Maintain organized files and meet strict production deadlines without sacrificing the quality of the artwork.

Qualifications and Professional Skills

1. Strong Portfolio: A professional-grade portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates a high level of draftsmanship, varied cinematic styles, and strong narrative sequences.
2. Technical Mastery: Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, Adobe Photoshop, or similar digital sketching tools.
3. Cinematic Knowledge: Deep understanding of film language, including shot composition, continuity, and visual hierarchy.
4. Communication: Exceptional ability to pitch ideas visually and verbally to the creative team and stakeholders.
5. Industry Experience: Proven track record of working on animated features, series, or high-end commercial content.
6. Problem Solving: Ability to visualize complex technical sequences and find creative solutions for narrative challenges.
