The Job Role : Senior Matchmove Artist

As a Senior Matchmove Artist, you will play an important role in establishing the camera and object data required for downstream VFX departments. Your work will provide the foundation for layout, animation, FX, lighting, compositing and other stages of production.

You will solve complex 3D camera tracks from live-action plates and recreate the movement and characteristics of the original production camera within a 3D environment. You will also perform object and geometry tracking, reconstruct basic scene geometry where required and ensure that cameras, objects and environments are accurately aligned.

The role requires the ability to work with production information such as survey data, camera reports, lens information and reference photography. You should be comfortable handling challenging footage, including low-parallax shots, handheld photography, long-lens material and shots affected by significant lens distortion.

Key Responsibilities as Senior Matchmove Artist

You will be responsible for solving complex camera tracks and creating accurate production-ready matchmove setups from live-action footage. This includes performing 3D camera tracking, object tracking and geometry-based solving, as well as reconstructing basic scene geometry when necessary to achieve reliable results.

You will calculate and manage lens distortion, work with variable focal lengths and challenging camera movements, and use available survey data, camera reports and reference photography to accurately establish the relationship between the camera and the production environment.

You may also create witness-camera or secondary-camera setups when required and perform basic rotomation for tracking and camera-solving purposes. Maintaining correct scale, orientation and coordinate systems throughout the scene will be essential.

You will be expected to deliver clean and organised scenes that can move efficiently into downstream departments. You will also troubleshoot difficult tracking problems, respond efficiently to Supervisor and client feedback and maintain consistency across shots and sequences.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have 6+ years of professional VFX Matchmove experience and strong production experience using professional camera-tracking software. Experience with 3DEqualizer is preferred, along with a good working knowledge of Maya.

You should have a strong understanding of camera optics, photography and lens distortion, including focal length, filmback, camera parameters and perspective. Experience with object tracking, geometry-based solving and camera reconstruction is essential.

The ideal candidate should be able to analyse difficult plates, identify tracking challenges and determine the most effective solving approach. Strong technical accuracy, attention to detail and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.

You should also be comfortable working within an established VFX pipeline and communicating effectively with Supervisors, Leads and other departments.

Preferred Experience

Experience working on feature films and high-end cinematic VFX will be highly valued. Additional experience with creature and character shots, vehicle tracking, complex handheld photography, long-lens shots and drone or aerial footage will be advantageous.

Candidates with experience handling multi-camera sequences, difficult lens-distortion workflows and large-scale environment reconstruction are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience delivering matchmove data for complex CG integration and maintaining consistency across multiple shots will also be beneficial.

Production Environment

This position will involve feature-film and cinematic VFX projects within a professional remote production environment. You may work on individual shots as well as sequences where consistency between cameras, objects and environments is critical.

The successful artist should understand how accurate matchmove data affects downstream departments and should therefore deliver scenes that are clean, organised, correctly scaled and ready for further production work.

The role offers project-based and freelance opportunities, with the possibility of ongoing work depending on project requirements, availability and performance.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit an updated Resume / CV and Matchmove Showreel demonstrating their strongest camera-tracking and object-tracking work.

Applications should also include a breakdown of your contribution to the reel, years of professional experience, software proficiency, current location and time zone, availability and expected daily or weekly freelance rate.

Please provide a direct and accessible link to your showreel and clearly identify your individual contribution to collaborative projects.
