Senior Game Designer at Gameloft, Barcelona 2026

Are you ready to redefine the boundaries of interactive entertainment? Gameloft Barcelona, the creative powerhouse behind global hits like Asphalt 9: Legends and Disney Speedstorm, is seeking a visionary Senior Game Designer to join our world-class team.

Based in the vibrant heart of Catalonia, this role is a perfect blend of creative freedom and technical precision. We aren’t just looking for someone who understands games; we are looking for a gameplay architect who can craft the “soul” of our next big title.

 Senior Game Designer Job Overview

  • Company Name: Gameloft
  • Job Title: Senior Game Designer (Gameplay Expert)
  • Employment Type: Permanent Contract
  • Work Model: Hybrid (Barcelona Office + Remote Flexibility)
  • Location: Barcelona, Spain
  • Experience Level: Mid-Senior (3+ Years Gameplay Experience)
  • Industry: Video Games / Digital Entertainment
  • Salary Range: €45,000 – €65,000+ per annum (Based on experience & local market standards)

Detailed Job Responsibilities

As a Senior Gameplay Designer, you are the bridge between a high-level creative vision and the tangible experience of the player. Your work ensures that every second spent in our worlds is rewarding, intuitive, and, most importantly, fun.

1. Core Mechanic Design & Prototyping

You will be responsible for designing immersive gameplay mechanics from the ground up. This involves taking initial briefings and expanding them into fully realized systems. You won’t just write about it; you’ll be hands-on in prototyping these mechanics to prove the “fun factor” before full-scale production begins.

2. Documentation & Technical Specification

A great idea is only as good as its execution. You will produce detailed, professional documentation (GDDs) that clearly formalize complex concepts. This includes flowcharts, UI wireframes, and systemic breakdowns that serve as the “source of truth” for the rest of the development team.

3. Cross-Disciplinary Coordination

You will act as a focal point for the project, coordinating closely with Art, Programming, and Production teams. Your goal is to ensure that the gameplay intent is maintained throughout the asset creation and implementation phases. You will work alongside Producers to manage timelines and ensure that features are delivered at the highest quality.

4. Iteration and Fine-Tuning

The magic of game design is in the polish. You will spend significant time in-engine, tweaking variables, balancing difficulty curves, and refining the “3Cs” (Character, Controls, Camera) to ensure a seamless player experience. You will also perform competitive benchmarking to ensure our titles remain leaders in the global market.

Mandatory Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess a robust foundation in game design theory and a proven track record of shipping successful titles.

  • Design Fundamentals: Mastery of the “3Cs,” learning curves, difficulty balancing, and progression systems. You should have a deep understanding of what makes a game accessible yet challenging.

  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 3 years specializing in gameplay-related design, with prior experience in a Senior or Lead capacity.

  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to visualize and prototype ideas using industry-standard tools. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Engines: Unity, Unreal, or proprietary engines.

    • Visualization: Photoshop, Figma, or Sketch-up.

    • Documentation: Confluence, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Communication: Exceptional English skills (written and verbal). You must be able to pitch ideas concisely and defend design decisions while remaining open to constructive criticism and collaborative feedback.

Desirable Assets & Bonus Skills

While not strictly required, the following attributes will make your application stand out:

  • Racing Expertise: A deep-seated passion for racing games. If you understand the nuances of drift mechanics, slipstreaming, and arcade-style physics, you’ll fit right in with our Asphalt and Speedstorm teams.

  • Multiplayer Systems: Experience designing synchronous or asynchronous multiplayer systems, including matchmaking logic and competitive balancing.

  • Visual Flair: Skills in UI/UX design or composition. If you can draw your own sketches or create digital mock-ups/videos of your mechanics, it significantly accelerates the development pipeline.

  • Market Knowledge: A dual understanding of both classic console gaming and the “freemium” mobile market. Knowing how to engage players in a Live Ops environment is a massive plus.
