Scanline VFX is currently seeking an experienced Lead Animator to join its Seoul, South Korea studio. This is an onsite position for a skilled animation professional who excels at producing high-end character performances while leading and supporting a talented animation team.

About the Role

As a Lead Animator, you will play a vital role in creating realistic and expressive animations for characters, creatures, and animated objects used in feature film productions. Alongside delivering complex shots, you will provide creative direction, technical guidance, and mentorship to fellow animators, helping maintain the studio’s high standards of quality throughout production.

Working closely with supervisors and cross-functional departments, you’ll contribute to both the artistic vision and the technical success of every project.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce high-quality character, creature, and object animations for feature film productions.
• Handle complex animation sequences while ensuring exceptional artistic quality.
• Collaborate with Animation Supervisors, Leads, and production teams to achieve the project’s creative goals.
• Identify and solve technical and artistic challenges throughout the animation process.
• Work closely with the Rigging department to improve character rigs and animation workflows.
• Mentor junior and mid-level animators by providing constructive feedback and technical support.
• Maintain consistency in animation performance, acting, timing, and storytelling across all assigned shots.
• Assist in refining animation pipelines and promoting efficient team collaboration.

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in a Lead Animator role within feature film or high-end visual effects production.
• Strong proficiency in Autodesk Maya.
• Excellent understanding of animation fundamentals, including acting, body mechanics, timing, weight, staging, posing, and storytelling.
• Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing production priorities while meeting project deadlines.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot animation and technical workflow issues.

Preferred Qualifications

The following skills are considered an advantage:

• Background in fine arts, illustration, or classical animation.
• Knowledge of human and animal anatomy.
• Life drawing experience.
• Familiarity with Nuke and Autodesk 3ds Max.
• Experience with Python or MEL scripting.
• Previous experience working on previs or virtual production projects.
