Afterz VFX Studio is expanding its creative operations in Kolkata. Known for our commitment to high-quality visual effects and a streamlined production pipeline, we are currently seeking dedicated Roto Artists and Interns to join our growing team. Whether you are an experienced artist with up to two years in the industry or a passionate newcomer looking for your first break, Afterz offers a professional environment built on mentorship and technical excellence.
The Role
Rotoscoping is the foundation of high-end visual effects. At Afterz, we view our Roto team as the essential first line of the compositing process. As a Roto Artist or Intern, you will be responsible for creating precise, articulate mattes that allow our compositors to integrate complex elements seamlessly. You will work on a variety of assets—ranging from human characters and intricate hair details to hard-surface props—ensuring every frame meets international quality standards.
Your Responsibilities
Precision Masking: Create highly accurate rotoscoping and masking for characters, props, and complex moving elements within a shot.
Edge Fidelity: Deliver clean, consistent mattes that respect edge detailing, including the proper handling of motion blur, defocus, and transparency.
Frame-by-Frame Quality: Execute work with extreme attention to detail, ensuring there is no “jitter” or “boiling” in the mattes across the timeline.
Pipeline Integration: Organize and manage your assigned shots according to studio guidelines, ensuring smooth hand-offs to the Compositing department.
Collaboration: Work closely with Lead Artists and other departments to understand the specific requirements of each shot and make necessary adjustments based on feedback.
Deadline Management: Maintain high-quality output while adhering to strict production schedules and delivery timelines.
Standardization: Strictly follow project-specific naming conventions and data management protocols to keep the studio workflow efficient.

Requirements:
Technical Proficiency: A strong working knowledge of Silhouette (industry standard) or other relevant rotoscoping software.
Experience Level: Open to candidates with 0 to 2 years of experience. We value both the fresh perspective of interns and the refined eye of junior professionals.
Visual Understanding: A solid grasp of edge quality, how motion blur behaves, and the ability to track fine details through complex motion.
Patience and Focus: Rotoscoping is a meticulous process. We need artists who have the discipline to maintain high concentration levels during long production cycles.
Team Synergy: A positive, professional attitude. You should be able to take constructive criticism well and contribute to a collaborative studio culture.
Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to ensure project instructions are understood and executed correctly.
