Pixomondo, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, represents the gold standard in global visual effects and virtual production. For over 23 years, the name Pixomondo has been synonymous with cinematic excellence, earning the trust of the world’s most renowned storytellers. As an Oscar, BAFTA, and Emmy-winning creative powerhouse, we have defined the visual landscapes of legendary projects such as Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, HBO’s Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and Amazon’s The Boys.
When you join Pixomondo, you are joining a legacy. We are not just a VFX house; we are pioneers in Virtual Production, operating world-class LED volumes that allow filmmakers to see their final pixels in real-time. From the neon-soaked streets of John Wick: Chapter 4 to the intricate world-building of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Pixomondo continues to push the boundaries of what is possible on screen. We are currently looking for a high-caliber Compositor to contribute to our award-winning Toronto team.
The Role: The Art of the Compositor
As a Compositor at Pixomondo, you are the final architect of the image. Your role is critical; you are responsible for the seamless integration of live-action footage and complex CG elements. Every shot you touch must meet the “PXO Standard”—a level of photo-realism and artistic polish that has made Pixomondo a leader in the industry for over two decades.
This is a Compositor role designed for an artist who thrives on the challenge of high-end episodic and film content. You will work within a sophisticated pipeline, utilizing Nuke to solve complex visual puzzles, from intricate keying and rotoscoping to advanced CG lighting integration. At Pixomondo, we value the Compositor who possesses both a technical mastery of the software and a deep, intuitive understanding of the physical properties of light, color, and motion.
Core Responsibilities of the Compositor
Digital Integration: As a Compositor, you will create high-quality digital composites by blending various layers (Live action, CG, FX, Matte Paintings) into a single, cohesive shot.
Style Adherence: You will establish specific looks or follow the established aesthetic direction provided by the VFX Supervisor, ensuring every Compositor on the team maintains visual continuity.
Technical Troubleshooting: You will solve design and effect challenges for key visual effects shots, ensuring that technical hurdles do not compromise the creative vision.
Collaborative Excellence: You will work closely with other departments and fellow Compositors to ensure that all assets delivered to the compositing stage are optimized for the final render.
Feedback Mastery: A Compositor at Pixomondo must be able to implement feedback from dailies quickly and effectively, maintaining the high standard of work the studio is known for.
Pipeline Management: Use ShotGrid (formerly Shotgun) to manage tasks, track versions, and communicate progress within the Pixomondo workflow.
Professional Requirements
Industry Experience: A minimum of 3 years of documented experience as a Compositor in a professional VFX environment.
Software Mastery: Expert knowledge of Nuke is non-negotiable. You should be fluent in 3D compositing, multi-pass EXR workflows, and deep compositing.
Artistic Eye: A strong reel that proves your skill as a Compositor, specifically showcasing your sense of color, lighting, perspective, and scale.
CG Integration: Proven ability to integrate complex CG elements into live-action plates with perfect matching of grain, depth of field, and motion blur.
Problem Solving: General problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while contributing to a strong team environment.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills. At Pixomondo, we believe the best work comes from a collaborative and communicative team of Compositors.
