The Role: Orchestrating Cinematic Excellence
The Lighting Lead serves as a critical pillar in our production pipeline. You will be responsible for guiding the lighting team, ensuring that every shot not only meets the artistic vision set by the VFX Supervisor but also adheres to the highest standards of technical quality. This is an opportunity to mentor talent, optimize workflows, and leave a lasting impact on major international film projects.
Core Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage the lighting team, conducting daily one-on-one check-ins to ensure project goals are met and artists are supported.
- Artistic Stewardship: Ensure lighting continuity across sequences and maintain a cohesive visual style that supports the director’s narrative intent.
- Workflow Optimization: Work alongside pipeline developers to streamline lighting strategies, troubleshoot technical bottlenecks, and implement improvements in daily workflows.
- Creative Supervision: Assemble temporary comps for reviews and provide artistic/technical guidance to ensure shots are ready for final delivery.
- Mentorship: Actively coach Lighting TDs to develop their skills, fostering a culture of technical rigor and artistic growth.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Participate in production meetings and design discussions, acting as the primary point of contact for the lighting department.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a mentor and a maker. You should have a proven track record of steering large teams toward successful project delivery while maintaining a calm, collaborative, and results-oriented atmosphere.
Requirements:
- Experience: 5+ years in a Lighting Lead or equivalent supervisory role within the VFX film or animation industry.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience managing large teams and successfully overseeing complex production schedules.
- Technical Mastery: Proficiency in industry-standard software, specifically Maya, Arnold, and Nuke. Knowledge of Redshift and Unreal Engine is considered a significant asset.
- Artistic Foundation: A strong command of color theory, composition, and aesthetics.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Ability to plan and execute complex lighting scenes using layers, passes, and AOV management.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead discussions and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Photography Background: A strong understanding of photographic principles (depth of field, exposure, dynamic range, FOV) is highly preferred.
