Lighthouse Studios is an award-winning animation powerhouse defined by six core values: Pride, Passion, Persistence, Playfulness, Poise, and People-focus. Based in the historic heart of Kilkenny, Ireland, we have established ourselves as a premier partner for global streaming giants including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

We are currently seeking a high-caliber Compositing Supervisor to spearhead the visual finishing of an upcoming 16+ mature-audience production. This role requires a master of light, color, and technical efficiency who can translate directorial vision into stunning, broadcast-ready frames while leading a high-performance team.

Production Context & Advisory

This specific production is a 16+ show. While the content is presented within a stylized animation context, it involves mature themes, including contextually justified strong language, threat, and non-gratuitous violence.

Applicant Discretion: Applicants must be comfortable reviewing and refining mature content daily. While Lighthouse Studios respects conscientious objections, the fundamental nature of this supervisory role makes alternative placement unlikely for this specific term.

Core Responsibilities

As the Compositing Supervisor, you are the final gatekeeper of the “look.” You sit at the intersection of Art and Technology, ensuring that the production’s aesthetic remains consistent from the first shot to the final deliverable.

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Creative Mentorship: Guide a team of compositors through the artistic nuances of the production, providing clear, actionable feedback on lighting, depth, and effects.

  • Scheduling: Work closely with the Production Manager to ensure the department maintains an achievable and consistent delivery schedule without compromising quality.

  • Resource Allocation: Assign shots based on artist strengths and manage the internal feedback loop to minimize unnecessary revision cycles.

2. Technical Oversight & Pipeline Development

  • Master Setup Creation: Develop and maintain the master compositing templates and render guidelines to be used across the entire department.

  • Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve bottlenecks within the Harmony compositing pipeline, including node optimization and render farm management.

  • Asset Archiving: Establish procedures for archiving compositing setups to allow for efficient partial reuse in future sequences or marketing materials.

3. Artistic Execution

When required, the Supervisor will lead by example, handling “hero shots” or complex sequences involving:

  • Multi-Layer Integration: Layering Photoshop background elements with Harmony animation sequences.

  • Advanced FX: Implementing camera moves, masks, blurs, color grading, particle systems, and time-based effects.

  • Final Review: Partnering with the Director to perform final picture reviews, ensuring all aesthetic goals are met before locking the picture for client delivery.

Candidate Profile: Requirements & Expertise

We are looking for a seasoned veteran who understands the specific constraints and creative possibilities of 2D digital animation.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Leadership History: At least 2+ years of professional experience in a Supervisory role within a compositing department for feature film or high-end episodic series.

  • Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Toon Boom Harmony is non-negotiable. You must understand the deep architecture of the Harmony Node View.

  • Production Tools: Proven experience with ShotGrid (Flow) for review cycles, note tracking, and status updates.

  • 2D Fundamentals: A deep understanding of lighting, color theory, atmospheric perspective, and traditional 2D cinematography.

Soft Skills & Professionalism

  • Communication: Fluency in English with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders (Directors/Producers).

  • Time Management: A disciplined approach to deadlines and the ability to work effectively under the pressures of a fast-paced production environment.

  • Availability: Consistency in being available via studio messaging systems and email during core working hours.

  • Relocation: A willingness to relocate to the beautiful city of Kilkenny for the duration of the contract.
