Role Overview
The Senior VFX Artist is a high-impact role responsible for shaping the visual “feel” of our upcoming titles. You will be the bridge between static art and dynamic gameplay, creating everything from ambient environmental particles to explosive combat abilities.
This position requires a rare combination of artistic “feel”—knowing the exact timing of an impact—and technical prowess—understanding how to optimize complex shaders for cross-platform performance. You will work in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with designers to ensure mechanical clarity and with programmers to ensure technical stability.
Key Responsibilities
Visual Direction & Style
- Aesthetic Alignment: Collaborate closely with the Art Director and Lead Artist to establish and maintain a cohesive visual style for all real-time effects.
- World Building: Conceptualize and animate a diverse array of effects, including atmospheric elements (fog, rain, wind), environmental destruction, and magical or sci-fi abilities.
- Consistency & Quality: Conduct regular reviews of your work to ensure it aligns with the overall artistic vision and meets the high-quality benchmarks expected of a Gameloft title.
Technical Integration & Innovation
- Engine Implementation: Utilize Unreal Engine’s Niagara system to build scalable, performance-oriented effects.
- Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Work with the Engineering team to integrate VFX into the game’s core systems and with the Animation team to sync effects with character movements.
- R&D & Tooling: Stay at the forefront of industry trends. Actively participate in the development of in-house tools and shaders to streamline the VFX pipeline.
- Optimization: Manage particle counts, draw calls, and texture memory to ensure a smooth experience on both high-end PC/Console and optimized mobile hardware.
