Website Eleventh Hour Games

Eleventh Hour Games is a rapidly expanding studio fueled by a singular passion: creating the next generation of top-down Action RPGs (ARPGs). Following the breakout success of Last Epoch, we are scaling our team to forge even more extraordinary worlds.
Eleventh Hour Games is looking for a Lead Environment Artist who is a “player-coach”—someone who can drive the high-level visual vision for massive, immersive worlds while remaining deeply hands-on in the trenches of production. You will be the architect of our landscapes, the mentor to our artists, and the bridge between artistic ambition and technical performance.
Job Overview
- Company Name: Eleventh Hour Games (under KRAFTON Americas)
- Job Title: Lead 3D Environment Artist
- Location: Remote (Global)
- Core Hours: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM CST (Required)
- Job Type: Full-Time
- Estimated Salary: $125,000 – $175,000+ (Based on seniority & location)
- Experience Level: Senior / Lead (5+ Years Industry Experience)
- Key Project: Last Epoch and Upcoming Titles
The Opportunity: Shaping Extraordinary Worlds
As the Lead Environment Artist, you will be responsible for the “readability,” mood, and composition of our game worlds. This role is not just about placing props; it is about establishing the technical foundations and visual standards that allow a world to feel cohesive, performant, and vast.
You will collaborate directly with Art Direction, Game Design, and Engineering to ensure that our environments aren’t just beautiful, but also support the fast-paced gameplay loops our community loves. You will lead a team of talented artists, providing the feedback and mentorship necessary to push our quality bar to the next level.
Core Responsibilities as Enviornment Artist
1. Vision & Hands-On Execution
While this is a leadership role, we value artists who love the craft. You will:
Drive the environment art vision and maintain a high quality bar.
Remain a primary individual contributor, building large-scale environments, cinematic vistas, and complex spaces yourself.
Ensure every environment tells a story through composition, lighting, and mood.
2. Technical Workflows & Scalability
Building for an ARPG requires a balance of beauty and performance. You will:
Establish and refine landscape and terrain creation workflows, including advanced material setups.
Leverage procedural content workflows to accelerate world-building without losing artistic control.
Partner with Tech Art and Engineering to optimize environments for large-world streaming and real-time lighting.
3. Leadership & Project Management
A lead must ensure the health of both the project and the people. You will:
Create and manage art production schedules, milestones, and resource needs.
Monitor team morale and communication channels, intervening early to prevent burnout or misalignment.
Document and refine art processes to ensure the team works smarter, not harder.
Provide clear, constructive feedback and support the hiring of new talent to grow the department.
Candidate Qualifications for Enviornment Artist
Professional Experience
5+ Years in the Games Industry: You must have a solid track record in environment art, with at least some of that time spent in a Senior or Lead capacity.
Shipped Titles: Demonstrable experience shipping high-quality games or live-service products, specifically those involving large-scale or streamed environments.
Technical Skills
Modern Engine Mastery: Deep knowledge of real-time environment pipelines (Unreal Engine or Unity), including landscape systems and real-time lighting.
Material Systems: Experience creating complex, modular material setups for terrain and architecture.
Procedural Proficiency: Experience with procedural placement or rule-based generation tools (e.g., Houdini, PCG tools) to facilitate scalable world-building.
Lighting Fundamentals: A strong grasp of how light interacts with geometry, even if you aren’t the dedicated lighting artist.
Artistic Soft Skills
Compositional Eye: Ability to create vistas that feel epic yet readable for a top-down camera perspective.
Mentorship: A genuine desire to help others grow and a proven ability to raise the “quality bar” across a team.
Agility: The ability to stay productive and positive when production priorities shift.
Preferred Extras (Nice-to-Haves)
While the technical skills above are core, we are particularly interested in candidates who bring:
A Concept Art Background: If you can sketch out a world or a visual theme before building it in 3D, you’ll be an even stronger asset.
Visual Ideation: Strong drawing or 2D skills to help communicate ideas quickly to the Art Director.
World Design: A passion for the “why” behind a space, ensuring the environment serves the lore and the gameplay.
Why Eleventh Hour Games?
