What You Will Work On: Studio Projects
At Rural Games, we believe that interns learn best by contributing to real, active studio workflows. You will not be tucked away in a corner; you will be an integral part of our art division, producing 3D environments that thousands of players will explore on Steam.
Your artistic efforts will directly support our current flagship titles:
- Platform 13: A terrifying, psychological horror experience where claustrophobic, eerie, and highly detailed environment art is essential for driving suspense and dread.
- Zero Drag: An action-packed, open-world crime game built for high-speed thrills, requiring expansive, gritty, and structurally diverse urban layouts.
Your core focus will be Modular Environment Construction and World Building, translating concept designs into optimized, fully realized 3D spaces.
What You Will Do: Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As our 3D Environment Artist Internship participant, your day-to-day activities will be dynamic, creative, and technical. You will be responsible for:
- Modeling & UV Unwrapping: Model detailed 3D environment assets, props, and architectural elements strictly using Blender, followed by precise UV unwrapping.
- Modular Kit Design: Build flexible modular environment kits that Level Designers can easily use to construct varied and complex game levels.
- Texturing & PBR Workflows: Texture assets using industry-standard tools like Substance Painter to create realistic physical materials.
- Engine Optimization: Ensure all 3D assets are properly optimized, clean-meshed, and ready for integration into game engines.
- Scene Population & Collaboration: Work side-by-side with Level Designers to assemble, dress, and populate scenes for maximum visual storytelling impact.
Who We Are Looking For: Candidate Criteria
Rural Games is looking for dedicated 3D artists who combine technical proficiency in Blender with a strong artistic eye for composition and space.
Essential Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Blender for 3D modeling and asset creation (Strictly Required).
- A strong, intuitive understanding of environment composition, scale, and architectural proportion.
- Solid knowledge of clean UV unwrapping and mesh optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with PBR (Physically Based Rendering) texturing workflows.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience using Substance Painter or Substance Designer for advanced material creation.
- Prior experience assembling and lighting environment scenes in Unity or Unreal Engine.
- A functional understanding of digital lighting principles to enhance mood and atmosphere.
