The Role: Rotomation Artist
As a Mid-level Rotomation Artist at Frame X, you will be the backbone of our character-driven CG integration workflow. Your work ensures that digital assets feel perfectly grounded within a live-action environment. Whether you are performing intricate rotomation to match live-action performances for CG characters, executing complex camera tracks, or performing precise object tracking, your role is essential in ensuring a smooth and efficient post-production pipeline.
You will be expected to maintain the highest standards of accuracy, as your rotomation solves provide the foundation upon which our animation, lighting, and compositing teams depend. A successful candidate understands that rotomation is a blend of mechanical precision and artistic intuition, requiring a keen eye for character performance, motion weight, and environmental perspective.
Key Skills and Technical Proficiency
To succeed in this role, you must possess a solid foundation in motion analysis and digital character movement. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Rotomation Expertise: Advanced knowledge of rotomation techniques for realistic motion matching. You can analyze live-action performance and translate it into fluid, accurate movement for 3D characters or props.
Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in industry-standard tracking and motion tools such as PFTrack, 3DEqualizer, or similar. You should be comfortable navigating complex tracking pipelines.
Precision in Tracking: Proven ability to deliver pixel-perfect camera solves, object tracking, and geometry alignment. You understand the nuances of lens calibration and are capable of managing plate preparation effectively.
Problem Solving: A proactive approach to technical challenges. When faced with complex motion blur, occlusions, or problematic plates, you possess the patience and technical toolkit to find a viable solution.
Production Discipline: The ability to work efficiently under tight production deadlines while maintaining meticulous file organization and naming conventions.
