What You Will Work On: Studio Projects
At Rural Games, we believe that interns learn best by contributing to real, active studio workflows. You will not be tucked away in a corner; you will be an integral part of our design division, producing interface systems that thousands of players will experience on Steam.
Your creative efforts will directly support our current flagship titles:
- Platform 13: A terrifying, atmospheric psychological horror experience where minimalist, haunting UI design is crucial for building tension and immersion.
- Zero Drag: An action-packed, open-world crime game built for high-speed thrills, requiring sleek, dynamic, and responsive heads-up displays.
Your core focus will be User-Centric Interface Design and Prototyping, ensuring that every player journey feels intuitive, striking, and completely seamless.
What You Will Do: Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As our UI/UX Internship participant, your day-to-day activities will be dynamic, creative, and collaborative. You will be responsible for:
- Wireframing & User Flows: Map out user journeys and build structural wireframes to establish clear, logical navigation paths for game menus.
- High-Fidelity UI Creation: Design polished, high-fidelity UI assets, custom icons, and visual elements that match each game’s distinct artistic identity.
- Interactive Prototyping: Build functional, interactive prototypes in Figma to test user interactions, menu flows, and transition animations.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with programmers and developers to ensure accurate UI implementation and smooth integration into the game engine.
Who We Are Looking For: Candidate Criteria
We are looking for detail-oriented designers who combine technical tool proficiency with a deep empathy for the player experience.
Essential Qualifications:
- Proficiency in industry-standard design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD.
- Strong command of graphic tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
- A solid understanding of foundational design principles, including typography, grid layouts, and color theory.
- An unwavering focus on user-centric design and intuitive usability.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Prior experience designing user interfaces specifically for video games.
- Familiarity with game engine UI frameworks such as Unity UI or Unreal UMG.
- Basic knowledge of interaction design and motion feedback principles.
