About Grendel Games: Play with Purpose

At Grendel, we don’t just make games; we create catalysts for change. For over two decades, we have sat at the intersection of entertainment and utility, earning an international reputation as leaders in the Serious Games industry.

Our mission is to prove that play is the most effective way to learn, heal, and grow. From rehabilitative tools for healthcare to interactive simulations that teach sustainability, our projects have a tangible impact on the real world. When you join our multidisciplinary team of developers, artists, and strategists, you aren’t just a cog in a machine—you are a storyteller helping to translate complex concepts into engaging, human-centric experiences.

The Role: Impact-Driven Design

As our Graphic Designer (Marketing), you will be the visual voice of Grendel Games. You won’t just be “making things look pretty”; you will be a strategic partner to the marketing department, translating high-level business goals into effective, high-performing visuals.

The core of this role involves creating the assets that drive our digital presence. Whether it’s an ad that stops a user mid-scroll, a pitch deck that secures a global partnership, or a website update that clarifies a user’s journey, your work will be the first thing the world sees.

Key Responsibilities

1. High-Impact Campaign & Visual Design

  • Ad Creatives: Conceptualize and design performance-driven assets for paid social (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook) and Google Display networks.
  • Optimization: Create creative variations for A/B testing, using data-driven insights to refine imagery for better click-through rates.
  • Visual Storytelling: Develop campaign themes that align with specific marketing personas and positioning strategies.

2. Dynamic Video Editing

  • Short-Form Content: Craft engaging Reels, TikToks, or YouTube Shorts that highlight our game mechanics and social impact.
  • Product Demos: Edit gameplay footage and live-action recordings into polished product demos and “how-to” explainer videos.
  • Platform Adaptation: Ensure video content is technically optimized for various platforms (aspect ratios, captioning, and duration).

3. Website UX & Digital Support

  • Interface Elements: Design icons, banners, and layout components that enhance our web presence.
  • Wireframing: Translate UX briefs into functional wireframes, ensuring a seamless flow for our visitors.
  • Hierarchy & Conversion: Use design principles to improve visual hierarchy, Call-to-Action (CTA) placement, and overall page usability.
  • Developer Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with our dev team to ensure your designs are implemented with pixel-perfect accuracy.

4. Sales, Events, & B2B Collateral

  • Pitch Decks: Design high-end Keynote/PowerPoint presentations that help our sales team close deals with international partners.
  • Event Design: Lead the visual direction for physical events, including booth graphics, roll-up banners, and promotional merchandise.
  • B2B Materials: Create professional whitepapers, case studies, and brochures that communicate the ROI of Serious Games.

5. Brand Stewardship

  • Consistency: Act as the guardian of the Grendel brand, ensuring every piece of content—from an internal memo to a global ad—is “on brand.”
  • Evolution: Help evolve our visual identity as we expand into new markets and sectors.

What We Are Looking For

Grendel Games value a blend of technical mastery and a “performance mindset.” You are a great fit if you possess:

  • A Stellar Portfolio: You can showcase a diverse range of work, particularly in digital advertising, web design, and social media.
  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) and Figma. Experience with the Affinity suite is a plus.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Skills: You are a designer first, but you aren’t afraid to jump into a video timeline or a UX wireframe.
  • UX Sensitivity: You understand that design is about solving problems, not just aesthetics. You know how to guide a user’s eye and simplify complex information.
  • Agility & Communication: You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You take feedback constructively and can iterate quickly to meet deadlines.

Why Join Grendel?

Grendel Games believe that great work is born from a healthy, inspired, and autonomous environment. Here is what we offer:

  • Purpose-Led Work: See the direct results of your labor in games that help children learn or help patients recover.

  • Growth & Learning: We provide a dedicated personal development budget because your growth is our growth.

  • Hybrid Flexibility: We value face-to-face collaboration in our unique Leeuwarden studio (3 days a week) but offer the flexibility to work from home for the remainder.

  • Flat Structure: We hate bureaucracy. You’ll have a high degree of autonomy and a direct line to leadership.

  • A Unique Studio Culture: Work in a creative, multidisciplinary space filled with people who are passionate about gaming and technology.

Detailed Expectations and “A Day in the Life”

To give you a better sense of the scope of this 1,000+ word profile, let’s look at the lifecycle of a typical project at Grendel Games. Imagine we are launching a new educational game for the sustainability sector.

Phase 1: Discovery You sit down with the Marketing Manager to review the campaign brief. You analyze the target audience—school administrators and government officials. You brainstorm how to make “sustainability” look exciting and urgent through a visual mood board.

Phase 2: Execution You spend your morning in Figma drafting a new landing page layout. By afternoon, you’ve switched to Premiere Pro to cut a 30-second trailer from raw gameplay footage.

Phase 3: Iteration After the first week of ads, the data shows that the “Green” version of the ad is outperforming the “Blue” version. You quickly hop back into Illustrator to create three more variations of the Green asset to further optimize the budget.
