Purpose of the Job
The Financial Controller is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the overall financial health of Overwolf. This role bridges the gap between raw data and strategic decision-making. You will oversee everything from tax compliance and financial statements to high-level FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis). By maintaining rigorous internal controls and providing actionable insights through variance analysis, you ensure that Overwolf’s growth is sustainable and financially sound.
Detailed Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Compliance
Statement Preparation: Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
Closing Processes: Lead and execute the monthly and quarterly closing cycles, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
Audit Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors during annual financial and operational audits, ensuring a smooth and transparent review process.
Tax Support: Assist in the preparation and filing of local, state, and federal taxes, maintaining strict compliance with all regulatory requirements.
2. Budgeting, Forecasting & FP&A
Planning Cycle: Manage the annual budgeting process and lead the monthly or quarterly updates to ensure the company remains aligned with its financial goals.
Variance Analysis: Conduct deep-dive variance analysis by comparing actual results against forecasts. Identify the “why” behind the numbers to provide actionable insights to department heads.
Unit Reporting: Create specialized monthly reporting sets for specific business units and departments, holding stakeholders accountable to their allocated budgets.
Financial Modeling: Develop sophisticated models to evaluate potential investments, calculate ROI for new features, and run “what-if” scenarios for future business pivots.
3. Operational Finance & Internal Controls
Transaction Oversight: Monitor and control day-to-day financial transactions, providing support to Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), billing, and collections.
Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow trends to ensure liquidity and support the company’s operational needs.
Policies & Procedures: Maintain and update internal controls and financial policies to mitigate risk and ensure the integrity of financial data.
Process Automation: Champion innovative solutions and the use of technology to automate manual accounting processes and improve efficiency.
4. Strategic Support & Ad Hoc Projects
CFO Partnership: Work as a right-hand to the CFO on special projects, including fundraising support, M&A due diligence, or international expansion strategies.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a financial advisor to various business groups, helping them understand their financial impact on the broader organization.
Requirements: The Hero’s Credentials
We are seeking a candidate who combines a strong foundation in traditional accounting with the agility required for a high-growth tech scale-up.
Academic & Initial Training: Internship experience at a “Big Four” or large accounting firm is highly preferred, specifically within their high-tech or software audit divisions.
Industry Experience: Direct experience working within at least one high-tech company and a solid background in accounting for global organizations.
Technical Mastery:
Excel: Expert-level skills (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs, complex nested formulas, and macros).
ERP Systems: Advanced knowledge of modern ERP systems. Specific experience with NetSuite is considered a significant advantage.
Analytical Prowess: Strong FP&A and budgeting skills with a proven ability to interpret data and communicate findings to non-finance stakeholders.
Communication: Native-level English proficiency with the ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional maturity.
Operational Agility: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize a heavy workload, and consistently meet tight deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
Bonus Points:
Gamer Heart: A true passion for hardcore gaming (PC or Console). We love people who understand our users.
AI Integration: Experience utilizing AI tools for finance (e.g., automated expense management, AI-driven forecasting).
Culture Fit: A passion for process improvement and a reputation for bringing creative solutions to traditional financial hurdles.
Working Conditions & Environment
Location: Our Hoboken office offers a collaborative, tech-forward environment just minutes from Manhattan.
Hours: This is a full-time position. While we respect work-life balance, the role requires flexibility during month-end closes and audit periods.
