Detailed Responsibilities: The Craft of Cinematic Narrative
As a Senior Cinematic Artist, you are responsible for the entire lifecycle of a cinematic sequence—from initial layout to the final, polished render.
1. Cinematic Directing & Layout
Visual Pacing: Develop and deliver real-time cinematics and trailers that define the visual tone of our titles. You will collaborate with Narrative and Art teams to ensure the story is told through “visual rhythm.”
Camera Mastery: Handle all aspects of virtual cinematography, including lens selection, camera movement, framing, and composition to maximize emotional impact.
Technical Layout: Work directly within Unreal Engine and Stingray to prototype and finalize shots, ensuring that every sequence remains performant while looking spectacular.
2. Animation & Character Performance
Movement Logic: Leverage your strong background in animation to ensure character interactions feel captivating and smooth. This includes keyframing, rigging adjustments, and directing the “acting” within a scene.
Optimization: Integrate and optimize 3D assets and VFX within the cinematic pipeline, maintaining a high visual bar without compromising the real-time engine’s performance.
In-Game Storytelling: Support the development of motion graphics and seamless “in-engine” transitions that keep the player immersed in the world.
3. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Marketing & Production: Liaise with video editors, sound designers, and marketing artists to ensure consistency across all promotional and in-game materials.
Workflow Innovation: Maintain organized project files and contribute to the evolution of the studio’s cinematic workflows.
Creative Ownership: Take full ownership of sequences from concept to delivery, acting as a creative lead for specific narrative beats.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
We are looking for a veteran artist who can navigate the complexities of real-time production with both a creative heart and a technical mind.
Professional Experience:
Tenure: A minimum of 5+ years as a Cinematic Artist or in a high-level real-time production role (Games or Film).
The Portfolio: A stunning reel demonstrating a deep understanding of composition, lighting, framing, and narrative motion.
Character Expertise: Proven experience in animating, rigging, and keyframing characters to achieve lifelike performance.
Software Proficiency:
3D Engines: Advanced proficiency in Unreal Engine is required. You must also be willing to work in/learn Stingray, our proprietary-adjacent engine logic.
DCC Tools: Mastery of Maya or Blender for 3D creation.
Post-Production: High proficiency in After Effects and Premiere for motion design and editing synchronization.
Technical Logic: A solid understanding of real-time rendering constraints and optimization techniques.
Why Fatshark? (The Stockholm Lifestyle)
Joining Fatshark means more than just a job; it means joining a “friendly and inclusive” collective in one of the world’s most innovative cities.
Work-Life Balance: We truly value “flex time” and “paid overtime.” We want you to be as passionate about your life outside the office as you are about the Warhammer universe.
Professional Growth: With recurring “Hack Weeks” and “Hack Days,” you have the freedom to explore new technologies, tools, and creative ideas that aren’t tied to immediate production deadlines.
A Playful Workplace: Our central Stockholm office is not just a workspace; it’s a social hub. Whether it’s team-building events or bringing your dog to work, we keep the atmosphere “approachable and fun.”
International Community: We welcome talent from across the globe. Our relocation package ensures that your move to Sweden is as smooth as one of your cinematic transitions.
Application & Onboarding Process
Fatshark is looking to fill this position ASAP. We interview candidates continuously, so early application is encouraged.
Onboarding: Note that onboarding is conducted fully in-office in Stockholm to ensure you are properly integrated into our culture and pipeline.
Portfolio Review: We place high value on your reel. Please ensure your submission highlights your “hands-on” approach to layout, camera work, and character animation.
Final Thoughts
At Fatshark, we are dreamers who build worlds of darkness and grit, but our studio culture is anything but. We provide the tools, the “Grimdark” IP, and the co-workers—you provide the cinematic soul. If you are ready to bring the horrors and heroisms of the Warhammer universe to the big (and small) screen, we want to hear from you.
