About the Role
The Animation Supervisor is the creative and technical leader responsible for the overall quality, consistency, and compelling nature of all animation on a project. You will ensure every performance aligns perfectly with the Director’s vision, working at the intersection of artistic excellence and technical pipeline efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
| Category | Focus and Duties |
| Team Management | Manage, train, and mentor the animation team. Provide clear examples and benchmarks for quality and performance. |
| Creative Direction | Work with Animation Leads to ensure high-quality, compelling, story-driven, and action-packed moments fitting the film’s style and pacing. |
| Quality & Delivery | Take overall responsibility for the quality of work across the entire team. Ensure adherence to show milestones and critical deadlines. |
| Pipeline & Technical | Collaborate with Rigging and Pipeline departments to provide suggestions and feedback for improving character setup, rig functionality, visual quality, and tool development. |
| Production Liaison | Work closely with Production and Leads to maintain continuous communication regarding team progress and schedule adherence. |
| Client Interaction | Attend client reviews and lead daily reviews with the animation team. |
| Innovation | Continuously research and become familiar with new tools, software, data, and motion capture technologies. |
Required Qualifications
| Skill Area | Requirements |
| Leadership | Previous experience supervising/leading a team (essential). Excellent organization, management, and interpersonal skills. |
| Technical Expertise | A thorough knowledge of Maya. A demonstrable understanding of rigs, typical rigging set-ups, animation pipelines, and transferring data between tools. |
| Artistic Foundation | A strong grasp of physical motion, weight, balance, texture, and form. Knowledge of human and animal anatomy, complemented by life drawing skills. |
| Workflow | Previous experience working with motion capture data. |
| Collaboration | A demonstrable commitment to creative collaboration with a team and across other departments. |
| Professionalism | Reliable, good timekeeping, ability to meet deadlines, strong problem-solving skills, and adaptability. |
