The Role: The Art of the Lighting Artist
The role of a Lighting Artist at 3 Doubles Producciones is to bridge the gap between technical rendering and cinematic beauty. You are responsible for “painting with light,” ensuring that every character and environment matches the emotional tone of the story. Whether it is a sunny morning in a forest or a dark, moody interior, the Lighting Artist ensures the audience feels exactly what the director intended.
As a Junior Lighting Artist, you will work closely with the Lighting Supervisor to master the feature film pipeline. You will be tasked with executing lighting and rendering for various shots, maintaining visual consistency, and collaborating with the Compositing and FX teams to ensure a seamless final product. This is a role for someone who is technically curious and artistically driven.
Key Responsibilities of the Lighting Artist
Shot Execution: Execute lighting and rendering for assigned shots, ensuring they strictly follow the established visual style and “look” of the 3 Doubles Producciones project.
Visual Continuity: Act as a guardian of consistency. Every Lighting Artist must ensure that shots within a sequence flow perfectly, adhering to the “Lighting Key Shots.”
Cross-Department Synergy: Collaborate with the Compositing, FX, and Shading teams. A successful Lighting Artist understands how their render passes will be utilized by the compositors downstream.
Scene Optimization: Learn to optimize lighting setups and scene files. , we value a Lighting Artist who can deliver breathtaking quality while maintaining efficient render times.
Feedback Integration: Maintain close contact with the Lighting Supervisor, showing resilience and a positive attitude when taking constructive feedback to refine your shots.
Professional Requirements
We are looking for a Junior Lighting Artist who has a strong theoretical foundation and a passion for cinematic aesthetics.
Artistic Foundation: Basic knowledge of lighting principles, including color theory, composition, and the fundamentals of cinematic lighting.
PBR Workflow: A solid understanding of physical light behavior and how materials interact with light in a Physically Based Rendering (PBR) environment.
Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Maya and industry-standard render engines such as Arnold, RenderMan, or Mantra.
Modern Tools: Familiarity with Solaris (Houdini) is considered a significant advantage as we evolve our pipeline.
Pre-Compositing: A basic understanding of Nuke to check your own render passes and perform initial pre-compositing.
Concept Interpretation: The ability as a Lighting Artist to interpret and translate concept art and color scripts into a 3D environment.
Language: Basic spoken and written English skills for effective team communication.
