As an Environment Generalist Supervisor, you are more than a manager; you are an architect of digital reality. You will lead a high-caliber team of artists to construct everything from sprawling procedural cities to intricate natural landscapes, ensuring every pixel aligns with the Director’s vision and our studio’s gold standard of photo-realism.

Team Management & Mentorship
Leading a team of Generalists means managing diverse skill sets. You will delegate tasks based on individual strengths—assigning a complex procedural terrain to a Houdini specialist while tasking a master texture artist with hero building assets. You are responsible for the growth, morale, and output quality of your team.
- Collaborate with pipeline TDs and technical teams to improve environment workflows.

Detailed Candidate Requirements
To succeed in this role, you must possess a deep “under-the-hood” understanding of how high-end VFX environments are built. We are looking for a veteran who has weathered the storms of major feature film productions and emerged with a refined, “can-do” approach to complex problem-solving.
Professional Experience
- Proven experience as an Environment Supervisor in high-end VFX production.
- Extensive background in feature films and/or episodic VFX pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex environment builds and large-scale productions.
Core Technical Proficiency
- Software Mastery: Expert-level command of Maya, Mari, and Nuke is non-negotiable.
- Generalist Breadth: High-level experience across the entire 3D asset pipeline: modelling (hard surface and organic), texturing, lookdev, layout, and lighting.
- Matte Painting & 2.5D: A thorough understanding of Digital Matte Painting (DMP) and projection workflows. You should know when to build a full 3D environment and when a 2.5D projection setup is the more efficient, elegant solution.
- Procedural Workflows: Experience with procedural generation tools (e.g., CityEngine, Gaea, SpeedTree) and scattering tools (e.g., MASH, Forest Pack, or proprietary tools) is a significant advantage.
- Data Integration: Proficiency in working with real-world data, including LIDAR scans, photogrammetry, HDRI sets, and on-set reference photography.
- Strong working knowledge of industry-standard software:
- Autodesk Maya
- Mari
- Nuke
- Advanced skills in:
- Modelling
- Texturing
- Lighting
- Layout
- Digital Matte Painting
- Solid understanding of compositing workflows.
Pipeline Knowledge
- Deep understanding of 3D and 2.5D VFX processes.
- Experience working within structured production pipelines.
- Familiarity with:
- HDRI workflows
- Photogrammetry
- LiDAR data integration
- Real-world reference acquisition
Advanced Technical Skills (Preferred)
- Experience with procedural environment tools (terrain/city generation).
- Knowledge of scattering systems and large-scale asset distribution.
- Ability to optimize heavy scenes for rendering efficiency.
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Proven leadership capabilities with experience managing creative teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance creativity and efficiency.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under tight deadlines.
- Proactive mindset with strong ownership and accountability.
Candidate Profile: “About You”
The ideal candidate is a creative-technical hybrid leader who thrives in a collaborative production environment. You are passionate about building immersive worlds and have a strong eye for realism, composition, and storytelling through environments.
- Strategically Minded: You look at a sequence and see the “big picture.” You plan for the long term, anticipating potential bottlenecks in the pipeline months before they happen.
- Calm Under Pressure: Feature film deadlines are rigorous. You are the “anchor” for your team, maintaining focus and a positive attitude even during intense delivery windows.
- Communicator & Collaborator: You can speak “Art” to the Director and “Code” to the Pipeline team. You bridge the gap between departments (Assets, Layout, Lighting, Comp) to ensure a seamless workflow.
- Detail-Oriented: You notice the pixel-level inconsistencies that others might miss, but you also know when to prioritize “good enough for the shot” over “perfect but over-budget.”
Your ability to guide teams, optimize workflows, and maintain quality under pressure makes you a key contributor to production success.
