Our London studio, located in the heart of Chancery Lane, serves as a central hub where over 1,000 specialists collaborate across Film, Episodic, Advertising, and Immersive divisions.
The Role: Compositing Artist Intern
As a Compositing Intern within our Film and Episodic division, you will be the final line of the creative process. Compositing is where the “magic” happens—it is the art of seamlessly blending disparate elements into a single, photorealistic frame.
Primary Responsibilities
- Element Integration: Use Foundry’s Nuke to merge live-action plates with 2D and 3D computer-generated (CG) elements.
- Visual Fidelity: Maintain a rigorous eye for detail regarding light, color, and grain to ensure every element looks like it was captured by the same camera lens.
- Problem Solving: Determine the most efficient and visually stunning way to bring assigned shots to life, balancing technical constraints with creative vision.
- Collaboration: Work alongside senior compositors and department leads to iterate on shots based on feedback from VFX Supervisors and Directors.
- Personal Project: Alongside studio work, you will complete a personal project designed to sharpen your skills and enhance your professional portfolio.
Candidate Requirements
We are looking for individuals who possess a blend of technical proficiency and artistic intuition. While we value specific software skills, we also look for “soft skills” that facilitate a collaborative studio environment.
Technical Skills
- Fluent Knowledge of Nuke: You should have a strong grasp of node-based compositing and the Nuke workflow.
- Artistic Eye: A deep understanding of color theory, lighting, and cinematic composition.
- Technical Literacy: Familiarity with CG passes (AOVs), rotoscoping, and tracking is highly advantageous.
Professional Competencies
- Time Management: The ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to explain technical processes clearly and take constructive criticism professionally.
- Proactivity: A hunger for learning and a self-starting attitude towards mastering new techniques and tools.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at Framestore
At Framestore, we believe that diverse teams produce the most extraordinary work. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ability.
Workforce Statistics & Representation
Framestore actively tracks and reports on diversity to ensure we are a leader in industry equity. In our most recent reporting cycles:
- Global Gender Distribution: We continue to push for a 50/50 gender balance across all departments. In 2025, our entry-level programs (like Launchpad) saw a 57.1% female participation rate, significantly higher than the industry average of 34% for technical VFX roles.
- Racial Representation: We are committed to the UK VFX & Animation Diversity Dashboard. We aim to increase representation from underrepresented ethnic groups (BAME) to exceed the London working population benchmark of 40%.
- Inclusive Recruitment: We utilize “blind” recruitment processes for initial portfolio reviews to eliminate unconscious bias.
Market Context: The UK VFX Industry (2026)
The UK remains a global powerhouse for post-production. Entering the industry via a Framestore internship places you at the center of a thriving economic sector.
- Market Size: The UK VFX market reached a valuation of approximately $2.78 Billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 12.9% through 2034.
- High Demand: With the rise of high-budget streaming content (Netflix and Disney+ allocating over $40 Billion combined for original content in 2025/2026), the demand for skilled Compositing Artists is at an all-time high.
- Career Progression: An entry-level VFX Artist in London typically starts with a base salary of £22,500 – £26,000, with senior-level artists earning upwards of £74,000+.
Application Process & Tips
To apply, please visit the Framestore Careers portal. Your application should include a CV and, most importantly, a Showreel showcasing your best work in Nuke.
Pro Tip
When submitting your showreel, include a “breakdown” for your shots. We want to see how you organized your script and what individual layers (CG, matte paintings, stock footage) you combined to achieve the final result.
