Key Responsibilities 1. Performance Stewardship & Profiling Runtime Optimization: Oversee macroscopic game performance across target platforms; establish strict memory and rendering budgets, monitor performance metrics, and ensure multi-disciplinary team alignment. Content Profiling: Deploy, track, and profile active project builds, utilizing diagnostic tools such as Unreal Insights, PIX, and RenderDoc to identify and mitigate expensive draw calls or memory bottlenecks. Shader Engineering: Architect and optimize custom surface shaders and complex master materials, minimizing instruction counts specifically in relation to Nanite, Lumen, and Virtual Shadow Maps. 2. Pipeline Architecture & Tooling Workflow Automation: Conceptualize, author, and maintain custom production tools and pipeline extensions utilizing Python or C#, utilizing PySide to deliver clean, intuitive user interfaces for content creators. DCC-to-Engine Ingestion: Streamline asset pipelines ensuring seamless migration pipelines from major digital content creation suites (Maya, Max, Houdini, Blender, Substance) into the game engine. Requirements for Principal Technical Artist Core Criteria AAA Shipped Track Record: Proven history of shipping one or more commercially successful AAA titles in a Principal Technical Artist capacity. Unreal Engine 5 Fluency: Deep, hands-on production experience shipping titles built on Unreal Engine 5, with specialized expertise identifying modern engine bottlenecks. Advanced Pipeline Knowledge: Expert understanding of modern asset construction pipelines, specifically regarding authoring content that is fully native, performant, and compliant with Nanite and Lumen systems.
