At Flying Wild Hog, gaming isn’t just a career—it’s our second nature. We are a studio built by passionate gamers who transitioned into world-class creators, driven by a singular mission: crafting immersive, adrenaline-fueled experiences that leave players breathless.

From the gritty, cyberpunk atmosphere of Hard Reset to the frantic, stylish carnage of the Shadow Warrior trilogy and the supernatural frontier of Evil West, we specialize in action that packs a punch.

Flying Wild Hog don’t settle for the ordinary. Flying Wild Hog are constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in real-time rendering and environmental storytelling. As a Senior Material Artist, you will be at the heart of this creative engine.

You won’t just be making textures; you will be defining the tactile reality of our worlds. Whether it’s the cold gleam of futuristic metal or the decaying organic matter of a monster-infested forest, your work provides the visual and physical foundation for our adventures.

Join us for a wild ride through gaming heaven, where your talent meets a team of industry veterans dedicated to excellence, innovation, and a bit of hog-wild fun.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Senior Material Artist at Flying Wild Hog, your role is a sophisticated blend of high-level artistic vision and deep technical problem-solving. You are the architect of surfaces, ensuring that every object in our game world reacts realistically to light and environmental conditions.

1. Material & Shader Development

  • Collaborative Innovation: Partner with Art and Technical teams to develop advanced shaders and smart materials that elevate the visual fidelity of our titles.

  • Procedural Mastery: Create and maintain complex texture graphs using Substance Designer to produce high-quality, tileable textures that serve as the building blocks for our environments.

  • Asset Texturing: Work closely with Directors and Art Leads to create bespoke texture maps for hero assets while strictly adhering to technical guidelines.

  • Library Maintenance: Be responsible for the creation and upkeep of a consistent material library that can be utilized across the entire project to ensure visual harmony.

2. Technical Integration & Optimization

  • UE5 Implementation: Ensure the seamless integration of your work into the Unreal Engine 5 material and tool libraries.

  • Performance Standards: Guarantee that all materials meet the strict performance requirements of the project. You must independently seek solutions that balance high art quality with hardware constraints.

  • Light Interaction: Use your deep understanding of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) to ensure textures react accurately to the game’s lighting systems.

3. Leadership & Workflow Documentation

  • Mentorship: Act as a technical beacon for the Art Team, providing guidance and assistance as they implement materials into the game pipeline.

  • Pipeline Documentation: Document production workflows and mentor other artists in industry-standard methods and the studio’s internal pipelines.

  • Problem Solving: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve production challenges with a creative and technical approach.

Candidate Requirements

We are seeking an artist who possesses a “technical eye”—someone who understands the math behind the pixels as much as the beauty of the final render.

  • Artistic Foundation: Strong skills in creating textures, both realistic and stylized, while maintaining a cohesive visual direction as outlined in the project’s Art Bible.

  • Technical Portfolio: A robust portfolio showcasing expertise in developing high-quality, game-ready textures and procedural materials.

  • Software Proficiency: Mastery of Substance Designer, Substance Painter, and Quixel Mixer.

  • Photogrammetry: Experience working with and adapting scanned textures to fit specific project themes.

  • Engine Knowledge: Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, specifically the Material Editor, texture setup, and optimization processes.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to proactively voice concerns or raise issues constructively.

  • Operational Skills: Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira, ClickUp, or Confluence.

Our Offer: The Hog Life

  • Remote Work: Total flexibility with the possibility to work 100% remotely.

  • Health & Wellness: Private medical care (entirely financed by the Hogs) and professional mental health support.

  • Fitness: A FitProfit sports card to keep you active.

  • Continuous Learning: Hog’s Academy – a dedicated development budget for your growth, plus language lessons (Polish and English).

  • Culture: A working environment built on strong team spirit, positive energy, and a flat hierarchy where your opinion truly counts.

  • Flexible Schedule: Focus on results during our core hours (11:00-16:00 CET) and manage your time freely outside of that.

lying Wild Hog: Where Adventure is Our Middle Name

Flying Wild Hog isn’t your typical game development studio. We are a collective of passionate gamers who transitioned from fans to creators, dedicated to crafting high-octane worlds that push the boundaries of action. From the relentless speed of Hard Reset to the iconic Shadow Warrior series and the gritty, supernatural combat of Evil West, we specialize in “heart-pounding” experiences.

Flying Wild Hog believe that the gaming community is our lifeblood. Whether you are an industry veteran Animator or a dedicated player, joining the “Hogs” means embarking on a wild ride through gaming heaven. We operate with a flat hierarchy where your voice matters, and your creativity directly shapes the monsters, heroes, and mechanics that millions of players interact with globally.

Detailed Responsibilities

As a Gameplay Animator at Flying Wild Hog, you are more than just a creator of movement; you are an architect of the player’s visceral experience. Your work will bridge the gap between static art and interactive combat.

  • Multi-Disciplinary Animation: You will be responsible for the end-to-end animation pipeline for a diverse range of assets. This includes standard bipedal humans, quadrupedal animals, colossal monsters with unique skeletal structures, and interactive environmental props.

  • Hybrid Workflow Mastery: You must be adept at both hand-keying for stylized or exaggerated movements and processing complex Motion Capture (Mocap) data for high-fidelity, realistic results.

  • Artistic Alignment: You will work in close lockstep with the Gameplay Animation Lead. Your role is to ensure that every punch, leap, and reload fits the established visual language and stylistic tone of the project.

  • Collaborative Design: You won’t work in a vacuum. You will collaborate daily with Programmers and Game Designers to build and iterate on gameplay mechanics. You are responsible for ensuring that animations feel responsive and satisfying within the game loop.

  • Production & Deadlines: Working with the production team, you will help estimate tasks and manage your pipeline to ensure the project meets its high-quality benchmarks within the designated milestones.

  • Engine Integration: You will implement your animations directly into the game engine (Unreal Engine), managing state machines, blend trees, and transition logic to ensure seamless movement.

Professional Requirements for Flying Wild Hog

Flying Wild Hog is looking for a technical artist who understands that animation in games is as much about “feel” and “logic” as it is about aesthetics.

  • Proven Track Record: At least 5 years of professional experience as an animator within the games industry, with a portfolio showcasing shipped titles.

  • MotionBuilder Expertise: An expert-level command of MotionBuilder is essential. You should be comfortable navigating its tools for retargeting, data cleaning, and scene management.

  • Anatomy & Physics: A profound understanding of the human figure and animal anatomy. You must be able to translate real-world physics (weight, inertia, and momentum) into digital characters to create believable motion.

  • Mocap Pipeline Experience: Demonstrated experience working with raw motion capture data, including cleaning, editing, and enhancing performances to suit gameplay needs.

  • Communication & Synergy: Exceptional soft skills. You must be able to explain technical animation constraints to designers and understand the logical requirements of programmers.

  • Animation Fundamentals: A mastery of the 12 Principles of Animation (squash/stretch, anticipation, staging, etc.) and the ability to adapt these principles to the constraints of a real-time game engine.

  • Game Design Literacy: A deep understanding of how animation affects gameplay. You should know how to prioritize “readability” and “player feedback” over purely cinematic motion when the situation demands it.

  • Technical Proficiency: Comfort working within a game engine editor. While we use a variety of tools, specific knowledge of Unreal Engine (Blueprints, Persona, Sequencer) is a significant advantage.

  • Language: Professional fluency in English is required for daily communication and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Maya Knowledge: Proficiency in Autodesk Maya for rigging or keyframe-specific tasks.

  • Creature Animation: A specialized portfolio featuring non-humanoid creatures (dragons, spiders, eldritch horrors) with realistic weight and movement.

  • Action Genre Pedigree: Experience working on third-person action games, specifically those with a heavy focus on melee combat or complex “character action” systems.

Our Comprehensive Offer

At Flying Wild Hog, we take care of our “Hogs.” We offer a modern work environment designed to foster growth, health, and creativity.

Flexibility & Autonomy

  • Work Your Way: We offer 100% remote work options for global talent, or the ability to work from our modern offices in Poland.

  • Flexible Core Hours: We respect your rhythm. As long as you are available during our core hours (11:00–16:00 CET), you can structure the rest of your day as you see fit.

  • Impact: We don’t believe in “code monkeys.” Your opinions on game design and creative direction are valued and encouraged.

Growth & Learning

  • Hog’s Academy: Every employee has a dedicated development budget to spend on workshops, industry conferences, or specialized courses.

  • Veteran Mentorship: Work alongside industry legends who have built some of the most iconic action games of the last decade.

  • Language Lessons: We provide free Polish and English lessons to ensure smooth communication across our international team.

Health & Wellbeing

  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Private medical care is provided and entirely financed by the studio.

  • Mental Health: We provide access to professional mental health support and psychological counseling.

Why Join Us?
