We are currently seeking a Senior Matchmove & Rotomation Artist to join our team across our premier Indian production hubs. We are looking for a veteran artist—someone who understands the physics of a lens as well as the mechanics of a human skeleton—to lead our tracking department into the next generation of blockbuster production. II. The Role: A Fusion of Art and Geometry As a Senior Matchmove & Rotomation Artist at BOT VFX, you are a technical “investigator.” Your job is to extract 3D data from 2D plates where information is often missing, motion-blurred, or obscured. You are the bridge between the physical set and the digital world. This role is divided into two critical pillars: Matchmove (reconstructing the camera’s journey through 3D space) and Rotomation (perfectly aligning digital puppets to the live-action performance of actors). We need an artist who doesn’t just rely on “Auto-Solves,” but someone who possesses the logical intuition to manually “nudge” a camera or limb into place based on the principles of parallax and anatomical physics. III. Detailed Core Responsibilities At BOT VFX, the “Senior” prefix denotes a role of high-level execution and strategic leadership. Your impact will be felt from the initial survey data review to the final layout hand-off. 1. High-End Technical Execution You will consistently deliver pixel-perfect camera and object tracking on complex-to-high-end complex shots. This involves: Resolving cameras for shots with extreme focal lengths, heavy distortion, or lack of tracking markers. Performing accurate 3D rotoscoping (Rotomation) for character replacement, ensuring that the digital double perfectly matches the weight and silhouette of the live performer. Reconstructing scenes using Lidar and Photogrammetry to ensure that the 3D environment is a 1:1 match with the physical set. 2. Leadership, Mentorship & Training A Senior Matchmove & Rotomation Artist is a force multiplier. You are responsible for the growth of the team around you. Mentorship: You will lead and mentor new entrants, acting as a technical lighthouse for junior and mid-level artists seeking to grow their careers in VFX jobs. Knowledge Transfer: Conducting formal training sessions to upskill the team in advanced 3DEqualizer workflows, lens distortion management, and complex body tracking. Internal Status Reporting: Providing regular updates to Production and Supervisors, ensuring that the “variable client pipeline” remains fluid and that all shots are delivered on time. 3. Pipeline Collaboration & Continuity The Matchmove department is the “Client” of the Layout department and the “Vendor” for Animation. You will: Work closely with Layout and Animation leads to ensure 3D scene continuity. Ensure that the character rigs provided are functioning correctly for the tracking tasks at hand. Maintain a comprehensive view of the sequence to ensure that cameras don’t “pop” or drift between shots. IV. Required Skills & Qualifications We are looking for a technical powerhouse who has spent at least half a decade in the “trenches” of high-end VFX production and is looking for one of the most rewarding VFX jobs currently available. Software Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Maya and 3DEqualizer. Familiarity with Syntheyes or Boujou is a significant advantage. The “Physics” of the Lens: A deep-rooted understanding of 3D camera principles, including focal lengths, radial/tangential distortion, parallax, overscan, and film back physics. Rigging Knowledge: A solid grasp of IK (Inverse Kinematics) and FK (Forward Kinematics) concepts.
