Final compensation is determined based on the candidate’s portfolio, years of specialized experience, and technical proficiency. Level Estimated Annual Salary Range (AUD) Key Focus Areas Mid-Level $85,000 – $110,000 Character mechanics, consistency, and shot delivery. Senior Level $115,000 – $145,000+ Complex creature work, mentoring, and shot leadership. Note: The figures above are estimates based on current industry benchmarks for the Brisbane VFX market. The Role: What You’ll Do As a Mid/Senior Animator at Alt.vfx, you will be a key contributor to our character and creature team. You won’t just be moving rigs; you will be defining personalities and telling stories through movement. 1. High-End Keyframe & MoCap Animation Your primary responsibility is to deliver consistent, high-quality keyframe animation. You will also be expected to work with and clean up Motion Capture (MoCap) data, ensuring it aligns with the high artistic standards of the studio. 2. Creative Collaboration You will partner closely with key creatives, animation supervisors, and leads. Your goal is to develop an animation approach that ensures all elements achieve the desired look and maintain strict continuity across the entire project. 3. Shot Management & Quotas Production efficiency is vital. You will maintain shot quotas set by the production team and supervisors. A critical part of the role is the ability to identify “problem shots” early—those that might affect delivery schedules—and communicate these concerns proactively to your leads. 4. Storytelling & Performance Your work must demonstrate a sophisticated ability to define character personality. We look for fluid motion, organic movement, and a deep understanding of storytelling through body mechanics and facial performance. What We Are Looking For We are looking for artists who are as passionate about the “how” as they are about the “what.” A positive attitude and a collaborative spirit are non-negotiable at Alt.vfx. Experience: You should have 4+ years of professional experience creating character and creature animation for high-end commercials, VFX films, or episodic television. Technical Mastery: You are an expert Maya user with a deep understanding of the software’s animation toolset. Specialized Skills: You must demonstrate the ability to solve complex shot requirements, including advanced body mechanics, nuanced facial animation, and dynamic camera animation. Leadership & Mentorship: For Senior candidates, we need team players who can mentor junior artists and manage sequences as easily as they can “roll up their sleeves” to tackle a difficult shot themselves. Problem Solving: You are known for an organized, even-tempered approach. In a deadline-focused environment, your ability to manage time and solve technical hurdles is what sets you apart. Bonus Skills: Experience in Previs or working with Motion Capture pipelines is highly regarded and will give your application a significant advantage.
