Brown Bag Films is seeking a highly experienced and technically astute CG Supervisor for a short-term contract opportunity in our Toronto studio. This senior leadership role requires extensive knowledge of the entire 3D animation workflow and pipeline, strong motivational qualities, and proven success in leading complex CG projects.
🎯 Role Summary: Purpose & Deliverables
Purpose: To lead the studio’s CG crew and technical implementation for a designated project, ensuring all CG output meets the Director’s creative vision and studio quality standards, while strictly adhering to the production assumptions and schedule.
Key Deliverables:
- High-quality CG Output for the designated project (both episodic and asset-based).
- Comprehensive Production Plan defining CG asset creation and episodic workflow.
- Clear documentation of Creative and Technical Requirements.
Success Metrics:
- Efficient project pipeline implementation and successful final delivery.
- Consistent achievement of creative and technical standards.
- Positive feedback and approvals from the Director and Client.
✅ Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Team Management:
- Crew Leadership: Lead the project’s CG crew, including any outsource partners, ensuring effective project delivery across all disciplines.
- Pipeline Implementation: Collaborate with the VFX Supervisor and CG Department Supervisors to ensure the seamless and effective implementation of the defined pipelines.
- Communication Hub: Facilitate clear and concise communication between Directors, Producers, and the CG team regarding workflow, pipeline status, and production challenges.
2. Technical Strategy & Problem Solving:
- Technical Direction: Define and lead the technical direction for all asset build and episodic production requirements.
- Production Plan: Define the optimal production plan for the creation and integration of all CG assets.
- Bottleneck Resolution: Proactively identify and resolve technical, creative, or organizational bottlenecks to maintain schedule integrity.
- Risk Management: Advise stakeholders immediately when agreed production assumptions are breached and recommend effective solutions to resolve the variance.
3. Creative Oversight & Production Planning:
- Creative Alignment: Collaborate closely with Project Directors to ensure all CG output fulfills the desired “look” of the project within budget and schedule constraints.
- Scheduling: Collaborate with the Project’s Producer and Production Manager on defining and tracking the project’s schedule milestones.
