Working under the guidance of the Compositing Supervisor, you will be responsible for compositing shots, polishing final images, supporting environment and character comp tests, and maintaining visual consistency across sequences.

This role is ideal for a compositor with strong Nuke, lighting, color, cinematography, and 3D compositing skills who enjoys working on high-quality animated storytelling.

About Sony Pictures Animation

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to an upcoming animated series while working closely with the studio’s compositing team and external production partners. You will play an important role in bringing characters and environments together, refining shots through feedback and reviews, and helping maintain the visual quality and storytelling of the series from shot to shot.

What You’ll Do

🎬 Compositing

• Composite shots under the direction of the Compositing Supervisor.
• Maintain a consistent visual style across sequences.
• Integrate characters, environments, lighting, effects, and other elements.
• Complete internal retakes and final shot polishing.
• Work on compositing tests for characters and environments.

🎨 Visual Quality

• Ensure shots match the project’s artistic direction.
• Maintain strong readability of characters and environments.
• Apply appropriate lighting, color, and cinematography principles.
• Maintain consistency across different sequences and environments.
• Pay close attention to detail, color, and image quality.

🤝 Team Collaboration

• Work closely with the Compositing Supervisor and other artists.
• Participate in LRC dailies with partner studios.
• Support paint-overs and notes used to communicate creative direction.
• Help identify and solve compositing or technical issues.
• Communicate effectively with partner teams throughout production.

Requirements

Candidates should have:

• Strong experience working in Nuke’s 3D environment.
• Ability to integrate stock footage and other elements into 3D environments.
• Strong understanding of lighting, color theory, and cinematography.
• Experience with character and environment compositing.
• Knowledge of multi-AOV compositing techniques.
• Strong understanding of layering and image readability.
• Experience working with large-scale animation or VFX pipelines.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and develop creative solutions.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong storytelling and visual judgment.
• A portfolio demonstrating strong compositing and lighting work.

Experience with animated series or similar productions is highly valuable.

Salary & Benefits

The anticipated base salary is:

• $62.22 – $75.00 per hour
• This position qualifies for benefits according to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
