Rodeo FX is looking for an experienced Animation Supervisor to lead the creative and technical direction of animation work on VFX projects from its Bengaluru studio.

You will oversee animation quality across shots and sequences, guide artists through production, make creative decisions, and work closely with Production, CG, VFX, Rigging, CFX, Layout, and other departments. You will also help manage workloads, solve production challenges, improve workflows, and step into complex shots when hands-on animation support is required.

This role is ideal for an experienced animator who can combine strong character and creature animation skills with leadership, communication, and production management.

Located at International Tech Park Bengaluru, the new 40,000-square-foot studio is designed to accommodate up to 400 artists and supports both Rodeo FX and Mikros Animation.

The Bengaluru team is fully integrated into Rodeo FX’s international pipeline, working with artists, supervisors, and production teams across multiple studios.

As an Animation Supervisor, you will help define how animation should look, move, and perform throughout a project.

You will work from the show’s creative direction and client requirements while ensuring the Animation team maintains consistent quality throughout production.

The role combines creative supervision, technical oversight, artist development, and production planning. While much of your time will involve guiding the team, you may also work directly on difficult shots when your experience can help solve a creative or technical challenge.

As the Animation Supervisor, you will help maintain consistency across the animation department from the beginning of production through final delivery.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Establishing the animation style and performance expectations.
• Helping define how characters and creatures should move.
• Maintaining consistency across sequences.
• Reviewing key performances and complex shots.
• Making decisions when creative or technical approaches need to change.
• Ensuring animation stays aligned with the wider VFX direction.
• Supporting Production with realistic delivery expectations.
• Identifying risks before they affect final delivery.

🎭 Shape the Performance

• Define animation direction based on the client’s vision and narrative requirements.
• Establish expectations for character, creature, and object performances.
• Guide artists on acting, posing, timing, weight, and body mechanics.
• Lead animation dailies and reviews.
• Give clear and actionable feedback.
• Maintain consistency in performance and animation style across shots.
• Review challenging or hero shots closely.
• Personally contribute to complex animation when required.

🎬 Storytelling Through Animation

• Understand the purpose and emotional intent of each shot.
• Help artists translate story beats into physical performances.
• Encourage animation choices that support the camera and overall composition.
• Evaluate whether movement communicates character intention clearly.
• Balance realism with the artistic requirements of the project.
• Use reference material effectively without simply copying it.

🛠️ Production-Ready Animation

• Ensure animation meets the project’s technical specifications.
• Review animation scenes for quality and pipeline compliance.
• Make sure deliverables are ready for downstream departments.
• Identify issues that may affect CFX, Lighting, FX, or Compositing.
• Work with Rigging and technical teams to resolve rig-related problems.
• Help validate animation tools and production workflows.
• Support technical decisions that improve efficiency without compromising quality.

🌱 Build Stronger Animation Talent

As a senior leader, you will contribute to the development of the team’s skills by:

• Sharing animation techniques.
• Demonstrating solutions for difficult shots.
• Reviewing work with artists.
• Helping artists understand feedback.

• Supporting internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Manage Animation Workflows

Working alongside Production, you will:

• Help distribute shots according to artist strengths and experience.
• Consider complexity, deadlines, and artist availability when assigning work.
• Monitor progress across sequences.
• Identify potential bottlenecks.
• Escalate important production risks.
• Adjust priorities when project requirements change.
• Help maintain realistic delivery schedules.
• Participate in artist casting and hiring discussions.

Hands-On Animation Support

Although this is a supervisory position, hands-on animation remains an important part of the role.

You may be expected to:

• Take on particularly challenging shots.
• Demonstrate animation solutions for artists.
• Help solve difficult performance problems.
• Refine important or hero shots.
• Test new animation approaches.
• Support the team during demanding production periods.

Your hands-on experience will help you make practical decisions that work within real production conditions.

Workflow & Pipeline Improvement

The Animation Supervisor also contributes to improving how the department works.

• Identify inefficient or repetitive processes.
• Recommend workflow improvements.
• Test new tools and techniques.
• Work with technical teams on animation tools.
• Document useful workflows and solutions.
• Help introduce new tools into production after testing.
• Contribute to pipeline R&D.
• Support standardization across animation workflows.

Essential Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional VFX experience in feature film and/or episodic productions.
• Significant experience as an Animation Lead, Animation Supervisor, or equivalent senior role.
• Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Maya.
• Strong understanding of:

• Familiarity with Flow Production Tracking (ShotGrid) or equivalent.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities under production pressure.
• Strong professional English communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with teams across multiple studios and time zones.
