The Digital Painter will be called upon to explore, create, execute and enhance color and lighting of artwork that informs the story process, and allows digital production to continue efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual designs, and execute production artwork
- Create production illustration key art
- Create color keys, lighting guides, texture guide and detailed paintwork
- Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets
- Seek feedback from the Director and the Art Director in alignment with the style and the mood of the story
- Create detailed textures for all project assets
- Provide the Surfacing department with detailed visual descriptions of the styled textures.
- Review and adjust artwork as required
- Able to develop visual styles and maintain consistency on a project
- Use studio’s Artwork management web-based tool for assignments, and review process
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s (BA) degree in Fine Art, Computer Graphics or related field preferred or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Feature Film, Commercial and/or Video Game production with an emphasis on drawing and painting
- Digital illustration skills with an Advanced understanding of Photoshop using the Wacom tablet
- Experience with Matte Painting would be considered an asset, but not a requirement
- A ‘good eye’ for color and lighting and enhances production artwork designs
- Excellent painting and conceptualization skills with an ability to adapt to established styles
- Understanding of fundamental illustration skills including composition, perspective and color theory
- Understanding of surface texture, anatomy, and architecture
- Understanding of form, composition, and use of detail
- Solid interpersonal and communications skills
- Able to work in a team and thrive in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment
- Self-managing – organized with good time management. Must be able to identify and meet goals
