Melbourne Cup Carnival Poster Design Tutorial

Today we are going to learn how to design a Horse Race Event Poster Design using Phtosohop C6, featuring Melbourne Cup Carnival will be our highlighted Heading. Step By step I will describe everything in a very easy way so you can learn that. let’s get started.

Step 1: Get that Concept Ready in our Mind

Before making any Design, as a Graphic Designer you should always have a proper plan and concept for that design, event heading, colors, etc. Just like that before making this Melbourne Cup Carnival Poster I knew that this event is a horse racing type. So, I search for images regarding Horse races or Horse Riding. This event name is to be the main highlight so I put that name in the middle in bold format with Anton Font. Now moving to the next step.

Step 2: Set up Page and color mode the basic essentials

Now, jump into Photoshop, File’ > ‘New’, and set the dimensions to 8.26 by 11.69 inches. I am using RGB color mode but you can use what your client prefers or what is your requirement. Also, don’t forget to set the resolution to 300 DPI for high-quality print.

Step 3: Creating the Background

Now one of the main parts of any type of graphic design. As a designer, you should create a background that must match that festival, event, or purpose vibe. For this Carnival Poster, I use a white background I want to give it a professional look and don’t want to make it colorful. You can choose as per your requirements and your concept also.

Step 4: Write down all the texts

After setting the background I used to write text just after that. I make the heading ” Melbourne Cup Carnival” with a double-tone color shade. First I filled the white color from the blending option and gave a little bit of stroke and then I copied that text and fill with a vibrant gradient color with red and Meganta to enhance that heading. If you make that kind of colorful big bold heading you should write subtitles also, Just as I created. After adding the extra text I placed a Social Media icon also. Because it’s rating carnival so placed trophy with a reflection shadow.

If you don’t know how to add reflection shadow, let explain that is very easy to create there are many ways to do that. Mostly what I do, is just copy that main image and flip to Vertical mode so both images could look like mirror reflections. Then just decrease the opacity for that one image and from the masking option just remove some of it parts in a way that it could look like blend with the background.

Step 5: The final Touch up

Till we just set the background and write down all the texts, now it’s time to give the final touch-up. For this, I am going to use one image and will create a thin border design at the end. Now come for that image, you can see on the picture what type of image I am using, I tweak the color tone of that particular image. Just mixed with black white background and a gradient highlight tone for more exposure.

For that, you need to copy that image make the upper image into B&W, and mask the character in a way that both of them should be removed, and we could see the lower image character’s color. So it could look like your background is black and white but your characters look colorful. For the final touch from the adjustment layers, I create a gradient fill map to enhance the background. So, that’s it.

Now select the Rectangular Marquee Tool and create a border by giving a stroke of 10PX, and that’s it your design is complete now.
