The Mission: Empowering Creativity through Technology
At Behaviour Interactive, we believe that great animation starts with great tools. As a Senior Technical Animator, you aren’t just a user of the engine; you are its architect. You will investigate the friction points in our production workflows and engineer high-performance solutions that allow our animators to stay “in the flow.”
From custom rigging systems to procedural animation logic, your work ensures that our characters move with the weight, personality, and technical stability our players expect.
Core Responsibilities
1. Tool Engineering & Pipeline Architecture
In-Engine Development: Design and build custom tools that allow animation teams to work natively within Unreal Engine, maximizing features like Control Rig and Sequencer.
Pipeline Optimization: Identify structural weaknesses in the animation data flow and propose architectural solutions to increase production speed.
Automation: Develop Python and C++ scripts to automate repetitive tasks in rigging, skinning, and asset exporting, allowing artists to focus on craft.
2. Technical Problem Solving
Diagnosis & Debugging: Act as the primary technical point of contact for the animation department, resolving complex bugs related to engine implementation and rigging.
Hardware/Software Integration: Maintain connectivity and synchronization between motion capture hardware, external DCCs (Maya/Blender), and the Unreal ecosystem.
Performance Profiling: Monitor and optimize animation budgets (bone counts, draw calls) to ensure fluid performance across all gaming platforms.
3. Leadership & Documentation
Technical Documentation: Write clear, professional guides for all internal tools and pipeline protocols.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Serve as a translator between the Animation and Programming teams, ensuring technical requirements are met without compromising artistic intent.
Knowledge Sharing: Mentor junior and mid-level technical artists on best practices within Unreal’s animation module.
What We Are Looking For
Technical Requirements
Industry Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in technical animation for AAA games or high-end VFX.
Unreal Engine Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Unreal Engine’s animation systems (Anim Blueprints, State Machines, Retargeting, and Sequencer).
Coding Proficiency: Strong command of C++ and Python for tool development and engine-level customization.
Artistic Fundamentals: A deep understanding of rigging, skinning, deformation, and the 12 principles of animation.
Professional Mindset
Innovation-Driven: A constant desire to stay updated on technological advancements (AI, proceduralism, etc.) and apply them to the pipeline.
Communication: The ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical team members clearly and effectively.
Adaptability: The agility to thrive in a fast-paced environment and deliver high-quality results within a 6-month project window.
